Match report
On a nice sunny evening at Forthill, Forfarshire under 15's welcomed Rossie Priory in the second round of the Scottish Cup.
Missing normal captain Pryniaz, stand in skipper Samir lost the toss and Forfarshire were asked to field first. Calum W and Scott C bowled tight spells at the start and Samir made the breakthrough when he bowled visiting skipper Lynch. Some more good bowling and fielding followed, however a combination of some fine late order hitting by the visiting batsmen and a quick outfield saw the Rossie boys eventually reach a challenging total of 97 for 6.
The Forfarshire boys needed a good start and Scott C and Chris W again provided one. When Welsh was dismissed, Scott and Calum W came together and both retired having scored 30 runs apiece to put the home team in a potential match winning position. James B (13 not out) continued the good work and going into the last over Forfarshire needed 5 runs to win. A couple of scrambled singles left them needing two from the last two balls and to add to the drama a wicket fell off the second last ball. This meant that Craig McC came to the crease needing two to win and one to tie. He managed to hit the ball to cover to get a single and the scores were tied.
A quick review of the competition rules showed that with the scores being tied, Forfarshire were declared winners as a result of losing fewer wickets.
In a great game of cricket, everyone performed well for the home side and the team continues to show good signs of progress and credit is due to the whole team for a great effort which is reward for the hard work they are all putting in.
