Match report
Once again the start was delayed due to a shower and after bowling just 3 overs we were off for about half an hour for another shower. The wicket was damp and it looked likely to be a low scoring game.
After contriving to drop 2 catches in the first 10 overs, one of them being Beukes (the pro), it didn’t end up costing us much as LJ bowled Beukes in his next over and yet another run out instigated by Samy T got us off to an ideal start. Rhino and then Sam were introduced into the attack, both bowling well and finding some swing in the helpful conditions. Sam produced a wicket with his first ball and then the important wicket of Gardner. Rhino picked up 2 wickets in a good spell and it looked like the innings could be wrapped up early but McDonald batted well, before pulling a hamstring and needing a runner. The introduction of Howie and Umair saw the scoring rate drop again but Stenny did well to battle to the 47th over before they were all out.
We had been lucky not to have more rain in the afternoon, as several showers seemed to blow past, but the grey clouds were gathering both physically and metaphorically. Our innings got off to a bad start and progressively got worse as the scoreboard ticked over to 24 for 5. With the skipper at the crease and Chik on his way out at number 7, the rain started to fall and did so for an hour or more and the game was abandoned. We’ll put this one down to experience!
