Match report It was a relief to see the good weather during the week continue into the weekend and the sun was shining as we arrived in Bannockburn. Everyone found the ground easily thanks to the luminous orange stumps that St Modans use being visible from Bridge of Allan. The wicket looked good but the skipper lost the toss and we had to field first. Wickets fell regularly and the St Modans innings never really got going. Dulip Liyanage, the St Modans pro, had a reputation for hitting the ball hard and he did on several occasions. He looked the only threat in the batting line-up and if we had dismissed him early then I think things would have been wrapped up. An early spell was given to 13 year old Aman Bailwal and he picked up a wicket in his 4 very impressive overs. Certainly a name for the future the young left-hander has tremedous talent with the ball and also shows great promise with the bat.

As St Modans tried to steady things the introduction of Howie saw a flurry of wickets. A good 7th wicket partnership saw the scoring rate increase as Liyanage started to up the tempo. After he hit Howie for 3 consecutive sixes he was well caught by Umair on the Long off boundary for 80 and St Modans finished on a respectable 158.

Again the pro looked to be the main threat and a good opening spell saw him pick up Howie’s wicket. Rhino and Drummy put together an excellent partnership running well between the wickets and disposing of any loose deliveries. They both deserved their half-centuries but Pete holed out with the end in sight. He’ll have to write in his development book “didn’t see it through”. So the total was passed with only the loss of 2 wickets and a deserved win for the Forfs.
