Forfarshire Cricket Club 1st XI v Grange on Sun 26 Jun 2005 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Lost 1 wicket

Match report The coin was passed to Chik to see if we could have a change of luck with the toss. As it turned out Knoxy had lost 4 from 5 as well. This change helped as we won the toss and had a bat. Ryan's away for a couple of weeks with Scotland so Camy Miers will be standing in as pro for the first team. The early loss of Drummy brought Cam to the crease and he and Howie put on 85 for the 2nd wicket. An important partnership with the ball moving around quite a bit at the start. Cam was unlucky to be caught on the boundary for 44 after middling a fulltoss that looked to be going for six. Young Gordon Allan took an astonishing catch after it appeared he had misjudged it but somehow managed to thrust a hand in the air and the ball stuck.

We gradually built on the solid platform that they had made, unfortunately none of the batsmen could go on to make a big score and we didn’t get enough meaningful partnerships together. Tony batted well for his 38 and Tom Hine played well for 22 not out towards the end. It was a competitive total but we would have liked another 20 or 30.

The two Grange openers were looking to get the scoreboard ticking early. Matthew Betsey hit the ball hard and took 12 off my over before stupidly holing out to the man that had just been moved to long-off. Sam bowled well again and snapped up the wicket of Callum McNeil. Cam came on and bowled well and also picked up a deserved wicket. Allsopp and Holmes had a good partnership but when another couple of wickets fell the balance had swung back in our favour. Howie bowled another good spell and LJ came back into the attack. By this time there was a traffic jam in the changing rooms and at 178-8 the game was ours for the taking. Knox tried to farm the strike and kept the board ticking over and it looked like it would go down to the wire as the 9th wicket fell. Sam had the unenviable task of bowling the last over and with 5 required to win it went down to 1 off the last ball. They managed to scramble a leg-bye and it was all over. Very disappointing to have come so close to victory against one of the top teams.
