Forfarshire Cricket Club Forfarshire v Freuchie on Sat 02 Jul 2005 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Won 19 runs
Match report
It was another lost toss and we were asked to bat on what looked a good wicket. The Freuchie bowlers started well and there was plenty of movement for them. Runs were hard to find and a few early wickets fell putting us on the back foot. When Chik and Umair came together there was considerable rebuilding to be done with 5 wickets down. They both batted well and kept the scoreboard ticking over. Umair mixed attack with defence and struck the ball very well. This was his first fifty in the league and the best innings I have seen him play. Hopefully this will be a turning point for him and we’ll see more of what we know he is capable of producing.
Our total of 146 was a lot less than we wanted but we knew that Freuchie’s recent batting form hadn’t been great. There was still plenty of movement around and all the bowlers performed well. Umair completed a superb allround performance taking 4 wickets and the important one of Scott Gourlay.
There are few more amusing sights, or sounds, in cricket than a team mate writhing in agony after being struck by a throw from a member of his own team. I can assure you many people were laughing when we witnessed LJ perform such a feat. Tony, however, wasn’t so amused and was left with a cracked rib.
The lower order rallied to try and make the total but the damage had been done. This represented a significant win for us after a disappointing result the previous week.
