Forfarshire Cricket Club Lost 138 runs

Match report "A View From The Scorebox"

Not a great day this for the Fort. High School finished with 280 after their 45 overs for the loss of only 3 wickets. (It might have been 4 actually but after last night my recollection of yesterday is hazy at best.)

Asif and Winker both started well, Asif knocking Kenny Kyles' off
stump back early and Winker, as ever, offering the batsmen some helpful advice. Unfortunately both Brendan and Brooksy chose to to ignore Winker's thoughts and scored some runs instead.

Brendan scored 82 before being caught behind off an almost unplayable ball from Blackie which arced away in the air tempting Fordy to drive, before gripping the pitch and turning square, catching the inside edge and giving Neily a tough catch unsighted
diving away to his left.

Oh no hang on. That's the vin rouge doing things to my memory again. What I meant to say was that Brendan scored 82 before
skying a full toss from Blackie straight into the air and leaving Neil with a simple catch. Either way, he was out.

At the other end Brooksy had quietly gone about building a total for himself having survived a chance earlier in the day when the stand in point fielder put down a difficult chance which, to be fair, he did well just to get hands to. Apparently.

He finished on 102, going from the 70's to the nervous 90's in record time courtesy of one over from the skipper. Dougie Kyles put the icing on his own birthday cake with a quickfire 42 which
brought their run rate to over a run a ball, although Winker supplied the candle by not only dropping him on the boundary, but also palming the ball over the rope for six. Happy birthday Dougie.

Our reply got off to a mixed start with Neil going early to Brendan Ford yorker, but Asif "Hoffy" Naseer blazed up to 26 off about 4 balls smashing 2 huge sixes, before being run out having seemingly forgotten the rules of cricket for a moment. Our only score of note came from Bryce, but even though he started well and also smashed a couple of biggies in reaching 45, he too was bogged down by Kilminster who ended with 4-22 from his 9 overs.

The inevitable came in the 30 somethingth over (wine again) when the last wicket fell with our score almost exactly half of what we needed. 142 if anyone is actually interested and still reading this rubbish.

Not much positive came out of the day from a playing point of view although the emergence of the clubs new scorer was a plus while Barry and Zuli's re-enactment of the Mike Gatting and Shakoor Rana incident was Oscar winning. At the end of game though handshakes, beers and "what what's?" were exchanged, Winker abused Australians and Rusty went home to read up on
culture before the Cheese and Wine later that evening. More on that later!
