Forfarshire Cricket Club 3rd XI v Perth XI on Sun 14 Aug 2005 at 1pm
Match was Drawn

Match report With Simmy and Clark both unavailable, stand in skipper Pottsy lost the toss, Perth chosing to bat on good wicket, thankfully unaffected by the downpour of the previous evening.

Youth and experience opened the bowling, Jinglis bowling his usual frustrating line and length – despite admitting to a slight hangover from a wedding the previous day. If Kean was suffering from a hangover he didn’t show it, and bowled a consistent off-side line to a 7-2 field. Reward came when Bainy played on before scoring a run.

Andy and Dean took over, and despite bowling well, could not make the breakthrough needed - and the scoring rate picked up a bit.

After the drinks break, Goose decided the back injury he picked up playing football the day before was getting too sore, and Dave T donned the pads and gloves. Elliot slowed things a bit and collected a well deserved wicket after Foulds danced down the track allowing Dave T to gather the ball and eventually take the bails to complete a simple stumping.

Perth’s number 4 (Sutherland) then set about the bowling, hitting the ball to all parts, and cleared the boundary by several yards on two occasions before a hard hit drive to long on was well caught by Kingy. Perth’s opener (Ali) also departed for a fine 93, falling to Jinglis in his second spell.

A declaration after 40 overs caught the fielding team by surprise, and even more surprise came when the word from Perth’s tea table was that we didn’t get the extra overs! The rule book gave a different opinion.

222 to win in 50 overs didn’t sound too daunting, but still a good batting performance was needed. Dave and Gav opened, and despite both falling by the time the scoreboard showed 21, the run rate required still wasn’t too bad.

Perth then turned the game in their favour by introducing Sutherland and Dunk into the attack, the former having opened the bowling for their first team against Forthill XI just last weekend. The extra pace and bounce this combination brought saw wickets fall and the rate required increased steadily. Marty and Kingy both batted well and offered some resistance, but it was left to Jinglis and Elliot to block out the last 8 or 9 overs for a draw.
