Forfarshire Cricket Club 1st XI v Drumpellier on Sun 02 Jul 2006 at 1pm
Match was Abandoned

Match report It was a warm, muggy overcast day with a hint of thunder in the air. The wicket had a touch of moisture in it and it looked a good toss to win. Drummy made it two for the weekend and we asked Drumps to have a bat. The exaggerated movement off the pitch and in the air made it very difficult for the batsmen and with wickets in three of my first four overs it looked like we could bowl them out. Rhino bowled a good tight spell but didn’t pick up any wickets. He must have bowled the vast majority of his overs at the pro, who was happy just to pat them back.

AB replaced Rhino and also had to bowl to the pro for most of the time. The outside edge was passed a few times and the other batsman was quite content to stand and watch as many balls go passed as he could. Even a few that pitched on the stumps. I was finding it difficult to maintain a good line and gave away a few wides before finally picking up my fourth wicket with my second last ball. Howie failed to hang onto a tough low chance to his left from the final ball from my spell, which would have given him three catches and me five wickets. Perhaps Drummy was a little sleepy after the previous nights celebrations.

Blackie came on and bowled well again, he even picked up the wicket of the pro whose long vigil was over. Unfortunately it can’t count on the pro-counter because the innings wasn’t completed. Which, by the way, is a silly rule because all these incomplete innings should count in the averages!

It was now obvious that the ‘mank’ was closing in and there was a touch of drizzle in the air. The umps were keen to get to the cover of the dressing room and play was suspended after 29 overs.

Our hopes for another 25 points diminished as the persistent rain increased intensity. For the second time this season an excellent chance to claim the victory had been thwarted by the weather. Had we bowled a bit better in the very bowler friendly conditions we should have been able to bowl them out inside the 29 overs, and who knows maybe have had a chance to chase a small total.
