Match report Forfar was the venue for the second teams next encounter against a Strathmore side who had lost more than they had won this year. The pitch looked decent and we were slightly shocked when the home side sent us into bat but it wasn’t long till we realised just why.

The ball popped and jagged about a bit, certainly not an easy wicket to bat on. Our openers Neil and Butts had a tough time and were bogged down until Butts was bowled by Cooper and it wasn’t long until our greatest ever number 3 Bazza was also sent packing by the same bowler. Neil, on the other hand, was digging in and found himself working his way to a well earned half century while others around him were falling by the way-side. Bryce went for a decent 18, Lj cheaply, which left Blackie and Neil at the crease. Both managed some quick runs until Cooper caught Neil and it was left to Blackie and Winker to get the total up to a respectable 179-9 at the end. Neil’s 67 coming off 40 overs shows just how much of a fight it was and only Blackie with 19 not out and Bryce with 18 gave him decent support.

However we went into the tea interval knowing that 179 was a decent total to be defending on that track and that if we bowled well we could get something out of the game. This, somehow, seemed to be out of our capabilities and our bowlers toiled only managing to pick up 3 wickets as the Strathy batsmen made our bowling look amateurish and passed the total in only 30 overs. We left the field dejected and we really need to pick ourselves up and make sure that this result does not hinder our chances this year. The only real plus coming from Neil and a return to bowling form for Lj who was very unlucky not to pick up any wickets in a spell of good pace bowling.

The scooter club will return next week with a trip to Meigle where we will hope to capitalise on any chances we get.
