Match report
Dear Forthill patrons
The sun was shining and the weather was sweet yeah for Saturdays game which saw us meet Dundee High and Trent at home.
With the absence of the glue that holds the team together – Freda, questions were being asked about the quality of the teas but we had to put that behind us as our openers Neil and Craig went out to bat.
A flurry of excellent stroke play saw Craig race past his half century and along with Neilly’s level head a decent opening partnership was posted. Things were looking good at Forthill (and that’s not because Deano and LJ were sunbathing on the boundary) until young Wallace was caught behind.
It was then time for the skipper to come out.. It was then time for the skipper to go back… Barry may have got the crease confused with the bottom of the 18th hole at Caird Park and with a mighty swing he was clean bowled and made his way back to the changing rooms 15 runs better off.
Bryce was quick to follow suit, LJ popped in to say hello, he even borrowed the Dynamites log hoping that it would give him the same luck it gave the Dynamite the week before but alas, twas not to be and he was sent back to sunbathe as the Dynamite began to pad up.
Things were looking bad for the Hill when Neilly was caught 1 run shy of his half century. Then it finally happened - whispers were heard around the park, rumours spread as to who it was taking guard… ladies and gentlemen, they were true it was the Dynamite.. it was Deano. At 166 for 5 and 12 overs to go, Finbar and Dean needed something special to get a defendable total on the board. His first over faced saw a few quick singles, then came the second over, and it went a little something like this… 4, 2, 4, 4, slip, swing, and Dynamite was on his way. Finbar at the other end was taking runs here and there and the score raced to 175. Some said the scoreboard was moving so quick it was unreadable until john was caught out on 11. With Dynamite on strike, a huge 6 off the pro saw even more frustration from the High School and Deano raced past 50 - his first half century of the year.
Mo’s innings was a short one as an attempt at a silly run saw him on his way back, the score now sitting at 235 with 2 overs to go. James risked a quick single when the ball landed in the gloves of the keeper and the dynamite regained strike for the last over. Dean was smashing 2’s and fours, with a last ball yorker being to much for the exhausted Dean and he was on his way back to a standing ovation knowing he had at least made a game off it.
Tea’s were as per usual average until Ali showed up with a collection of goodies from the Gullistan which were greeted with delight and kind of made up for the fact that Freda was away.
James opened the attack along with LJ but runs came hastily as both took time to find line and length and LJ was soon replaced by Mo who bowled a good line and length and slowed the run rate. James eventually got what he deserved and the breakthrough came with Blackies bro out. Mo was replaced by Ted who bowled his usual, and this saw ex-Forthill superstar Bhuna stumped at the hands of Neilly.
Things were looking good - until the pro came in. We needed to get the danger man out so the Dynamite was brought on. A few balls missed his stumps by fractions, and a few hits from Colley saw the total catch up. It felt like people lost interest which is something we have to work on, as a few quick wickets put us back in the game but no-one was motivated enough to lift their game and give 100%. Perhaps this could be an action point for future games.
But anyhow, anything short was punished for it, Trent seeing the High home with a deserved 69 not out. Beaten again by the High School, but hey.. that’s cricket.
