Match report
Sunday saw Forthill XI's first away game of the season against Breadalbane. The trip to Aberfeldy was maybe too long for Kevin as he had a pre-match kip in the Salisbury car. Finding the ground proved a difficulty as Pottsy trusted Alan's directions over his sat nav. We eventually arrived at the ground at around ten to one and for a one o'clock start.
We were put into bat on something which seemed more like a sponge than a wicket. Craig and Gavin were sent into open the batting. Things were going well at 30-0 before Craig was unfortunately run out at the non-strikers end. With that incident Andrew entered and soon hit a straight drive which appeared to be going for four until it slowed up before the boundary and only managed to get one run from it. Andrew was soon bowled for 6. Pottsy came in at four and Breadalbane brought on their leg spinner. Pottsy took a liking to the sweep shot and after a 10th attempt eventually scored some runs with it. Gavin and Pottsy put on over 50 before Gavin gave some catching practice to the square leg fielder to end an innings of 41. After a few more sweep shots Pottsy was eventually dismissed for a good 38. Kevin and Mo were then at the crease with Mo scoring a quickfire 11 and a stubborn innings of 16 from Kevin. Simmy Senior and Junior were together at the crease. There was added pressure on Junior this week coming off the back of two ducks in a row. He got one run but that was to be all, bringing his average for the season so far up to 0.3 We closed the innings on 162-9 with Ted and Stuart at the crease.
With a short spell of rain during tea the Breadalbane innings was delayed slightly but only for ten minutes or so. The innings got underway and Andrew opened the bowling taking a wicket in his first over. Mo opened the bowling from the other end much to Junior's delight. He described Mo's bowling as "a work of art". Andrew was soon to have another wicket to leave the hosts 27-2. He got another wicket in his next over to put them in even more trouble. He possibly could have had 4 if Senior Sim had not decided to join the circus with a fine display of juggling. Andrew finished his 8 over spell taking 3 wickets for 23 runs. The spin attack of Walker and Junior was tried and Junior took two wickets which actually means he has had more wickets than runs this season. Could this be a record in the making? Ted bowled a miserly spell conceding only nine runs off his 9 overs taking two wickets in the process. Mo was brought back for another spell and this time got the wicket he deserved. Stuart and Kev also had short bowling spells with Stuart picking up one wicket. David Salisbury was behind the wickets for this game and was unlucky not to have a stumping and a few run outs to his name as he had kept well the whole innings.
After the victory we were invited to a barbeque which most of the team enjoyed - some more than others but I won't mention any names. We knew we were well prepared for the journey home as Ted assured us that there were plenty of spare tyres in the Sim car.
