Match report Forfarshire 103 for 6 (L Tosh 32, C Morrison 24)
Broomhall 94 for 7 (J Penman 45, S Hill 2-10, R Johnston 2-11)

Forfarshire Under 18's headed along the M90 to meet Broomhall in the Quarter Finals of the Scottish Cup. The trim ground had been battered by rain over the last few months and a heavy outfield and green wicket was the upshot. Forfarshire batted first and Lachlan and Christian both batted well against some tight bowling and provided a good platform for the rest of the innings. Craig M came in when Lachlan fell and played some fine shots including a couple of maximums. Unfortunately there was a procession of wickets in the following overs as Christian, Craig M, Rory and Marshall all got out in fairly quick succession. It was then left to Craig McC to hit some lusty blows including one maximum to take the score over 100 in the closing overs. The innings closed on 103 for 6 and Broomhall had bowled and fielded well. Given the batting conditions it was felt that 103 was a good effort by the Forfarshire lads.

Samir opened up and took a wicket in the first over and in spite of a good start overall - it quickly became clear that Broomhall opener Penman was going to be the key wicket. He received good support and as the overs ticked away and the sun started to go down a tight finish was set up. With 5 overs left and seven wickets in hand Broomhall needed 33 for victory and with Penman (45) still at the crease the home side were probably slight favourites. Rory bowled a couple of tight overs and picked up two wickets and Craig McC thankfully managed to bowl Penman in the third last over which tilted the game back in Forfarshire's favour. With two overs left and 14 needed to win, Rory bowled a great over which conceded only four runs and it started to look difficult for Broomhall. With 10 runs required and one over left, skipper Samir took the responsibility and in gathering gloom bowled a magnificent maiden over which saw the Forfs to victory.

This was a fine all round win for the Forfarshire lads and they now head to the Finals day which has been moved to Sunday 9th September. With a number of games still to be played in the competition it is unclear at this stage who their opponents might be; but whoever they come up against there is no doubt the lads will acquit themselves well.
