Forfarshire Cricket Club Forthill XI v Kinloch on Sun 08 Jul 2007 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Won 9 wickets
Match report
The big yellow thing in the sky that we thought had disappeared forever made
a guest appearance on Sunday and so it was all systems go for a game of
cricket.
Our old friends from Fife, Kinloch CC, made the visit to Forthill on league
duty and included former Forthill players Ricky Bowman and Bruce Hendry in
their ranks. Forthill themselves had two ex Kinloch stars in Gavin and Neil
Martin in their line up and our thanks go to Neil for stepping in at very
short notice to make up the eleven after a non appearance from an originally
selected player.
To the disappointment of both sets of players there was one former player
missing in the shape of Kean who decided to go and stand in the mud at T In
The Park as opposed to slinging mud at his former colleagues.
Simmy looked resplendent in a natty slacks and polo shirt tucked in type
combo following his sojourn to the Costa Brava. The family closed ranks when
questioned about any drinking and pedalo exploits on holiday and both the
skipper and BP looked well tanned.
Simmy won the toss and chose to field on a softish looking track and it was
some surprise to the home team when former Forthill number 11 Bowman opened
the batting. Both he and his opening partner found it hard going against the
accurate new ball attack of Aman and Kevin. With a combined age far less
than Bowman's individual years there was no doubt that the youthful opening
attack won over experience and it was no surprise when Bowman became
frustrated and holed out to mid off. The theme for the innings was
established and there followed a long succession of accurate deliveries from
the home bowlers and a constant struggle for the visitors. They eventually
succumbed to 80 all out with only skipper Dicky Dyer with 24 showing any
real flair.
The most notable event of the innings was when Clark misfielded a ball on
the deep square leg boundary. This was significant in that after a career
spanning some twenty five plus years this was the first time he had ever
misfielded a ball. The shock was evident among the home fans congregated in
front of the scoreboard and Howie had to be given mouth to mouth from Pam to
recover. At least that was their excuse.
Forthill opened with Aman and BP and before long the score was rattling
along with Aman playing a couple of exquisite front foot pulls off the
visiting skipper. He was unfortunately out after a fine 33 and this allowed
David to come in and show his ability. He played some terrific shots which
belied his age and he is clearly a player who has a big future ahead of him.
A nine wicket victory was completed in quick time and another 25 points in
the bag means Forthill XI continue their march up the league table.
Most encouraging from this performance was the leading role played by the
youngsters in the side. David (14), Kevin (14) and Aman (15) contributed
brilliantly with bat, ball and gloves and if they continue to work hard and
progress the future looks very bright indeed for this trio.
The same can't perhaps be said for messrs Sim Sr, McConnachie and Potts...
but no doubt their scoring and umpiring skills will come on no end!
