Match report A rather cold Saturday saw Forthill travel to Meigle. Coming off the back of a defeat to Strathmore the previous week, Forthill were looking to bounce back and get their second win of the season. The wicket was grassy but reasonably hard underneath. We won the toss and chose to bowl.

Deano and Mo were given the new ball and both bowled tidy opening spells. The first wicket came when Dean decided to throw a half tracker to the Meigle pro who decided to give Gav practice with his new catching technique (juggling). Deano’s slower ball was used well to get rid of the other opener. Ted was introduced to replace Mo and took the wicket required with a spectacular dive to take the return catch. Would he have caught a catch of this standard off anyone else’s bowling? Meigle started to rebuild their innings before Ted managed to break the partnership between Scott and Chowdhury removing the latter LBW. Cammy and Elliot were brought on to bowl neither picking up any wickets. However during Cammy’s spell, Bryce took an unfortunate blow and apparently to his delight required some much needed help from the Meigle doctor. Meigle managed to keep the runs ticking along and with some good hitting from Bettegowda, along with a series of dropped catches, Meigle reached a total of 195.

Craig and LJ were sent in to open the batting and LJ got the team off to a good start by hitting a couple of boundaries. Craig was unfortunately caught at slip for two. Cammy came in at three and for the first time in his career he walked. He edged the ball on to his pad and was caught by the wicket keeper but the umpire did not give him out. Barry and LJ had a useful partnership before LJ fell just shy of a 50 again. Barry was out for 27 and Gav was run out for 6. Dean was also run out after the Meigle pro appeared to throw the ball into the stumps when in fact he did not have the ball. Andy hit a couple of nice shots before being stumped. At this stage we required 72 off ten overs. Good hitting from Elliot saw him hit 18 from one over before getting caught. It was left to Mo and Bryce to see the game through with Ted being the only other batsman remaining. Ted had psyched himself up by listening to famous hits such as 5,6,7,8 and The Locomotion. Mo applied himself well scoring ones and twos and giving Bryce the strike. Bryce hit a boundary to finish the game off with 2 balls to spare.

It was a good win for Forthill and will hopefully set the ball rolling for the rest of the season.
