Aberdeenshire v Forfarshire Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 02 Jun 2007 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Lost 5 wickets

Match report We didn’t expect the weather to be as cold and damp when we arrived at Mannofield. The light drrrizzle had left the outfield a bit wet, which had a diverse effect on the ball for the warm up. The pitch looked good even after a week of pretty wet weather. We lost the toss and were asked to bat first, which we probably would have done anyway. Immediately it was tough going as the ball seamed around and the opening bowlers kept a disciplined line and length. Neily was first to be out LBW even though a loud wooden sound was heard round the ground.

Tony and Pete played and missed several times as the pressure grew. They managed to eek out a 12 run partnership, assisted by a couple of uncharacteristic dropped catches by Colin Smith. Tony finally schnicked one behind and Pete and Rhino had managed to muster 11 runs between them when Pete was also caught behind. Rhino made it to double figures before falling in similar fashion to Tony and wickets continued to tumble. Chik was the only one to mount any resistance to speak of, his 20 was the highest of the innings but was cut short by a dubious run out decision.

Tea was well suited to the weather with a hot bowl of soup being just what was needed to set us up to try and defend 71. The batsmen came out all guns blazing and were intent on playing shots from the start. This gave us a chance of picking up some wickets and Brand was first to fall, but not before hitting a big six onto the roof of the club house, don't ask who was bowling at the time! Sam bowled well picking up a couple of wickets and probably deserved more, an unfortunate drop at mid-off didn’t help our cause. A couple of good bits of cricket saw two run outs, one from Umair and a fine piece of work by Sam off his own bowling.

AB came on just in time for McGillewie to arrive at the crease. He was obviously listening to Tony’s chat from behind as his first ball shot through the covers for 4. He then finished the game with a couple of 6’s as Aberdeen celebrated a deserved win. Verdict: we should have turned back at Forfar.
