Perth Doo'cot 2nd XI v Forfarshire Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 28 May 2016 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Lost 43 runs

Match report Forfarshire 3rd team headed along the banks of the River Tay to the Doocot Dome, Perth to take on the local Dynamos 2nd XI in SPCU Division One action on Saturday. The Dynamos have started the season well and a tough encounter was in prospect. The team all gathered on the steps at Forthill, except for Steven and Adam who travelled together in private. This was a theme that developed throughout the day…

The team readied themselves and they found themselves bowling first in dry (if not sunny) conditions. Kailas and Lewis opened up and bowled tidily to ensure a becalmed start to proceedings. There then followed a procession of spin bowlers in the shape of James, Harry, Ted and Blair. They all did well with Harry (2 for 30 from 9 overs) being the pick of the attack. At drinks the game was fairly even and with the sun appearing it was a welcome refreshment break. Suitably hydrated, play was ready to re-commence when it became apparent we were missing two bodies. Steven and Adam were the absent parties and they finally re-appeared; having decided to go into the dressing rooms together for some reason…. This was all a bit concerning. Play finally re-commenced after they returned, somewhat dishevelled looking…

The Dynamos picked up the pace and some fine hitting in the latter stages saw them end with a fine total of 191 for 8. This would certainly be a challenging score for the Ferry lads when batting second. Highlight of the innings was a brilliant catch by Kailas at fine leg to dismiss Armstrong. No one seemed more surprised than Kailas that he held on to a firm swipe as it was heading straight between his eyes. Perhaps more a case of self-preservation than catching – but a fine catch none the less….!!

After the innings the skipper prepared to deliver a rallying speech ahead of the run chase – but was surprised to find only nine players in the dressing room. A quick search lead to the discovery that Steven and Adam had decided to change together in a separate dressing room away from the rest of the team. Further inspection lead to the discovery of scented candles and a discarded bottle of champagne on the floor. It seemed they had enjoyed a beautiful drinks break together…

Tea was taken in the quaint confines of the pigeon loft and a spread was laid out. The tea adjudicator had been harsh on the hospitality levels of one home player in previous years, so it was an encouraging start when said player poured a cup of tea for an opponent. A plus mark right away….

On to the tea. One could only assume the chickens in Perth had been working overtime last week; such was the amount of egg sandwiches on view. There was egg, egg and egg, boiled egg, egg with a hint of egg, mayonnaise and egg, chopped egg, double egg and scrambled egg to choose from. The tea adjudicator reported one ray of hope when he spotted some ham sticking out of a sandwich and made a beeline for that one – only to find it was a ham and boiled egg sandwich…. Aside from the egg options – there were a few dinner plates loaded with crisps………..some sweet treats and a bunch of green bananas.
This was truly a tea to forget from the Dynamos and only the random act of tea pouring kindness saved it from a complete disaster. But with an award of 39 out of 100 this puts the Perth outfit at the bottom of the Golden Urn table for 2016.

The visitors opened up with Sim Sr. and Cameron and they did well to survive a good opening spell from the Perth bowlers. Sim Sr. was once again looking to get away sharp due to yet another social engagement. This time he was heading to the local Concert hall to see Jools Holland for some reason. It would appear that Sim Sr. has a social life to rival Donald Trump and that seems fitting given he has a haircut to match as well these days. Cammy unfortunately fell after playing well -and this brought Sim Jr. to the crease to join his father. It was strange to see Steven blowing kisses to the side-line as he made his way to the middle, but a quick glance saw that the kisses were blown not surprisingly in the direction of Adam. Steven failed to trouble the scorers and on his way off he was replaced by none other than Adam, and their touching embrace while passing each other was nice.

Adam injected some required impetus to the run chase and we entered the last 20 overs needing a run a ball with eight wickets intact. An exciting run chase seemed likely, however when Adam got out, things unfortunately fell away and a clatter of wickets in pursuit of the target saw us ending on 148 for 9 at close of play.

So, the Dynamos ended deserved winners by 43 runs and played well. They have some good experienced players in their line up and seem set for a good season. The Forfarshire lads also did well and there were lots of encouraging performances from the young squad.

The Man of the Match Award went to Harry for a fine spell of bowling and he wins a dozen eggs.

So we packed up. Sim Sr. headed to see Jools Holland and eight others headed back to Dundee to watch the Champions League Final. Two un-named players headed off into the sunset together for a romantic meal….

Next week sees the Forfarshire Third Eleven making the long trip to Bannockburn to take on the St. Modans Sunrisers. This is always a tight contest and a good game should be played out under the shadow of the Wallace Monument.
