Match report The sun was shining for most of the day at Forthill on a pleasant and mostly warm day as we entertained Penicuik. Another lost toss saw us bowling first again this season. Sam cleaned up the left handed Foulds in his first over, which brought the pro in early. Scoring wasn’t easy though, with some tight bowling and fielding. Umair came on and did what he does best and got the breakthrough. A good catch by AB saw Chalmers depart to one of Umi’s less spectacular deliveries. A few wickets then fell in succession to leave them 101 for 4.

We were all a little surprised with the lack of strength in the opposition batting line up. Once Ramzan was out with the score on 140 only some agricultural late hitting from Mitchell got the scoreboard moving. Rhino won’t want to remember the sixes that landed in the school.

It was a welcome return for the Gullistan at tea and the bowlers enjoyed putting their feet up with some pakora’s. AB had his usual 3 plates of food but there was plenty left over for even Rocky with his injured hand to enjoy.
Scoring wasn’t easy but Rhino was in the mood for a score and he and Howie combined well for a 95 run opening stand. Rhino pushed on after Howie was out and it was a good opportunity for Coops to get used to the slow Scottish wickets.

Coops soon found his timing and played some good shots to take us through to the end. The tempo of his innings only slowed towards the end to try and allow Rhino the chance of 3 figures. Unfortunately Coops had to pat back several overs as Rhino could only find singles. One big swipe too many saw Rhino bowled for an excellent 92, which made some mends for the earlier punishment his bowling received.

Our first win was an important one but I don’t think this was anything like the strongest side we’ll face this year.
