Forfarshire Cricket Club 1st XI v Drumpellier on Sat 28 Jun 2008 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Lost 8 wickets

Match report The heavy rain earlier in the week had relented in time for the ground to dry out and it was a warm sunny day for our clash with Drumpellier. Another lost toss meant we batted first. The pitch had taken a bit of water during the week so it was always likely to be a bit slow. There was a bit of help for the bowlers but the easy pace of the opening bowlers didn’t create much cause for concern.

Ryan and Howie got us off to a good start again with 72 for the first wicket, Howie edging a good delivery to the keeper. Coops saw an early departure to an LBW that seemed to be a bit high. The outfield was noticeably slower and there weren’t many boundaries being reached. Bobby ended another promising innings caught at mid-off, trying to hit over the infield. Umair supported Ryan well as the two put on a partnership of just under fifty. Ryan was going well and looking set for a big score.

Umi was disappointed not to have gone on to get a bigger score and was out for 20 then Ryan and Pete both fell in quick succession to leave us with plenty of work to do. It was good to see Aman bat positively and he and Chik added 20 before Chik was out caught. Dougie was good company as AB started to increase the pace. A quick-fire 5o from just 37 balls was enjoyed by all his team mates. The last few overs proved to be very profitable and took us to a respectable total.

It was a bit of mixed fortunes in the field, a couple of early wickets gave us a good start but their pro was in an attacking mood. After the openers came off we found it difficult to keep the scoring rate down. Drummy changed the bowling a few times with little effect. Dougie had his first bowl in the SNCL and was unlucky not to have his first wicket. A reasonably straightforward chance at first slip was put down.

The outfield had gotten noticeably quicker from our innings and both batsmen were well set. Our performance in the field was one of the worst of the year and even the introduction of the spinners couldn’t find the breakthrough. The dropped catch was to prove our last real chance as both batsmen passed fifty and the pro completed a well made century.

A poor display ended with a deserved second defeat. We’ll have to bounce back next week or our promotion hopes will be all but gone.
