Forfarshire Cricket Club 3rd XI v Perth Doo'cot XI on Sun 17 Jun 2018 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Won 7 wickets
Match report
Father’s Day. A day of loving, caring, giving, cricket and a look of shock horror on both Walker twin’s faces when they realised neither of them had bothered to delve into their pockets and get their dad a present. Something much more unusual though came when the players cast their eyes over the pitch for the day. A Forthill pitch that might provide something for bowlers to work with. Oh my. Batsmen being batsmen however, wanted to bat first and were disappointed when Clark lost the toss and Perth decided to bat.
With Liam and appointed young skipper for the day, Glenn opening the bowling, the hosts fancied their chances. The visitors opening batsmen looked rather capable with bat in hand until Glenn sent an off-peg flying after the batsman chose to leave the ball alone. With tight lines being bowled at both ends by firstly Liam and Glenn and latterly Callum Walker, the Perth outfit were struggling to score. James Sim had come on to bowl after Liam and had rather inconsiderately picked up two quick wickets in his first over after the seamers had plugged away for the first 12 overs of the game. James had 3 to his name by drinks and still didn’t feel as though he was bowling particularly well, perhaps just the effects of a night out in Brechin. Spin seemed to be the way to go and so Ted was brought on from the other end. With regular wickets being taken the hosts were well on top, James now had 5 for himself and with it came the cries of ‘JUG’ from cover. Perhaps Blair could have taken his own advice and bought one for his dad however this seemed unlikely. With Ted picking up the wicket of the one batsman who managed to get going for the visitors lbw for 39 the hosts were well in charge. James then picked up his 6th and 7th and Ted his 2nd to wrap up the Perth innings, all out for 94. James had proved he was in the side for more than just the bakery picking up 7/16 off his 9 overs. Wickets had tumbled so quickly that Chef Dave hadn’t got the pizzas in the oven yet and so straight into the second innings it was.
Harry and Callum Walker opened the batting for the Forfs and set about chasing down the target quickly, playing some nice shots in getting about halfway there when Harry chipped one to cover for 30. When Harry went, scoring slowed down for the remainder of the chase, with most of the Forfs players now becoming increasingly hungry in the clubhouse this was not ideal. When the man in charge of all things alcoholic came down and requested an umpire change to resolve a car parking issue, a small dispute arose between Mr Latto and Mr Garden. With neither really wishing to go out and umpire but also not wanting to spoil the dreams of the other in umpiring a third team game, it was a case who could be the most bothered. Callum won the honour and even got to wear Liam’s jumper. When two quick wickets fell though, Callum had to pad up and Liam got his moment in the spotlight, albeit not for very long as Joseph hit a couple of nice shots to get the hosts over the line in 26 overs with Callum finishing unbeaten on 27. With hunger setting in for most, tea had better be up to scratch.
It was. Dave had once again provided a wonderful array of sausage rolls, pizzas, sandwiches, lots and lots of sandwiches and many cakes and bakes especially the fine mint tiffin supplied by the Brechin Bakery. After taking 7 wickets and being the star of teas as well, you would have thought that James Sim would’ve been delighted with his days work. However, when asked in his post-match interview for Forfarshire TV what he thought of his performance he simply said ‘It was alright’.
