Forfarshire Cricket Club 3rd XI v Kinloch on Sun 15 Jun 2008 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Won 8 wickets

Match report It was a slightly lethargic Forthill XI that took to the field on Sunday for a home match with Kinloch, the after effects of Saturday nights highly successful club Cheese & Wine, or wedding reception, or visit to Fat Sams, or a night policing the city centre taking their toll on various team members. Once change to the team was made from the previous week, Clark being unavailable due to a family trip to Elie Beach, so Gus made a welcome return.

The home skip won the toss and elected to bowl. Mo was quickly in the action and hung on to a return catch in the first over. His second over produced another beauty, targeting a leg stump line on the advice of Gus, the swing and seam movement he found removed the leg bail of a bemused Dyer. Gus’s consultancy skills were next offered to Kev, who adjusted his line to suit the new batsman, and he lofted one to Elliot at extra cover. A third wicket for Mo saw Kinloch 4 down with less than 20 on the board. Goose gave a new dimension to the Forthill attack by standing up to the stumps when Kev and Gav were bowling. That, along with tight spells from Elliot, Jaleez and Gav kept the run rate at around 3 an over.

Former Forthill player Stoops batted well with Varun to rescue the Kinloch innings, Willie passing 50 before a mis-judged run saw Gav and Goose combine well to effect a run-out, and give a well deserved breakthrough. With Simmy off the park dealing with work issues, Gus introduced Finbar into the attack, and the Kinloch tail were removed, Finbar finishing with 4 for 20 from 4 overs – Kinloch 160 all out.

Gav and Simmy jnr looked comfortable against the visiting openers, although some heavy rain showers had livened up the wicket. With the score ticking along nicely, Simmy missed a straight one form Whisson and was bowled for 14, Forthill 34 for 1. Gus looked in no trouble until he chased wide one and was caught behind. At 49-2 a short period of consolidation was needed, and Gav and Finbar provided that – and more. Gav passed 50 with ease and then looked to take on the bowling with a number of well struck attacking shots while Finbar continued punishing anything loose. Gav finished just short of a maiden century, the winning runs coming up in the 34 over.
