Scorecard

Forfarshire Cricket Club 3rd XI v DHSFP XI on Sun 20 Jul 2008 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Won 3 wickets

Match report DHSFP were the visitors on Sunday to a blustery Forthill.

With skipper Sim being marooned in a pedalo somewhere of the coast near Southport, Clark once again lost the toss and the visitors decided to bat first.

Messrs Philip and Fearn opened up and only some unusual batting from visiting opener Birds Eye kept the scoreboard flowing. Philip in particular hurried the openers and on this form a call up to the County side next week is a possibility, with LJ potentially dropping down to the fourths.

Birds Eye fell to a great catch from Gav who got so excited his nose bled profusely and he had to go for a lie down.

Mo came on for Henry and showed that a week’s wet weather training in the Outer Hebrides can work wonders and he caused all sorts of problems to the batsmen. At the other end Elliott bowled a nice line and length and wickets started to fall as a result.

Gav then came into the attack and in spite of his blood stained shirt he bowled well and picked up a couple of useful wickets including two of the three Ancell’s on view.

Adees also came on and picked up a couple of wickets and in spite of the best efforts of visiting skipper Hopkins the innings closed on 164 for 8.

Dean promised us all curry for tea, but it was standard fare although a nice 6.5 out of 10 was awarded by the judges who commented that if Freda had still been on holiday it would have been an 8.

It was interesting to note that a visit to the ground by Dave Thomson coincided with Freda’s return from vacation….

Some on the spot boaling from wily old fox Lindsay Ancell, aided by his son Michael at the other end meant Forthill set of slowly in pursuit of the total and the visiting umpire obviously wanted home for his tea when he gave Butts LBW to a bouncer that hit him on his shoulder. Clark also batted like his tea was in the oven before perishing for 33 and this lead to a collapse of wickets which left us staring down the barrel of defeat.

However, Gav continued his recent good form of late to score 41 not out and aided by a nice innings by Mo ( 27 not out) we sneaked home by 2 wickets with 4 overs to spare.

So a welcome 25 points as we continue in pursuit of a Champions League spot.

Assuming Simmy manages to get his pedalo out of reverse, assuming there is no dubious singing superstars playing in Tayside next weekend, assuming there is not another sporting event which takes precedence and assuming there is not a mass murder then the skipper should be back in his usual place for our next game.
