Match report Forfarshire travelled to Ayr for the second time in 2 weeks trying to complete their Scottish cup 1st round tie. The same team travelled for the second time minus Dougie Phillip and Beast who were replaced by Pratick and Blackie. The weather forecast was mixed but we were treated to some good sun which helped.

With the toss won we decided to have first use of the used deck. Wallace and Howie started well before they both departed with only twenty six on the board. This brought Tom and Bobby to the crease and they both played their shots before Bobby was caught rather weakly. Tom was set by then and he continued to hit his big shots and went on to complete his first hundred for the club before being caught in the deep for a magnificent 129. Aman meanwhile had come and gone for a well made 30 before Pratick 11 not out and Blackie 19 not out added some useful late over runs to help our score to 261 at the end of our 50 overs.

A good tea was eaten and then the hard work began. It had become sunny and warm now and we were keen to impress in the field. We started off well, Sam picking up an early wicket after a good catch from Lj at midwicket. Matt Horne at the other end was batting along nicely and was looking set for a big score which would of raised Ayr’s hopes of getting to their target. Sam picked up another wicket after a fine reflex catch from Drummy behind the stumps. Horne and Johntsone then put together a decent partnership before the later was caught of Blackies first ball of his spell. A quick lbw later from Blackie meant that Ayr were in trouble. Coops then pulled of a superb run out with a throw from the boundary of his knees, a classic. With Horne still at the crease there could have been trouble but he was soon caught by Lj off the bowling of Umair for a good 121. Blackie picked up another wicket to finish with 3 for before a run out by Wallace ensured a great victory after Ayr could not get the required 12 off Blackies last over finishing 6 short.

A “shock” result according to some but this only goes to show the talent amongst the side and hopefully there will be more victories in the future.
