Kinloch v Forfarshire Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sun 03 Aug 2008 at 1pm
Match was Abandoned

Match report If anyone involved with Scottish cricket needed further encouragement to recycle their irn bru bottles and switch to energy saving light bulbs, then a visit to St Andrews on Sunday would no doubt have converted them to a more eco friendly way of thinking.

The monsoons of the week had left the wicket saturated and rolled mud would be the only description that could be used to describe the track. Both sets of players were no doubt fully aware that a turgid game of cricket lay ahead and with a forecast of further heavy rain on the way it was in hope rather than expectation that we changed and got started.

Simmy senior had returned from his holidays and won the toss and inserted Kinloch on the sticky dog.

Henry has shown he has good pace as an opening bowler, however when he slid and fell on his rear end when delivering the first ball he had to curb his run in somewhat. The lack of sawdust on offer did not help.

It quickly became a war of attrition with the bowlers trying to bowl on the spot and the batters trying to stay in and wait for a loose delivery. Henry and Kevin did a good job and Dean came on and also bowled a tight spell. Runs were gathered slowly and wickets fell at regular intervals and it was very, very slow stuff.

The home teams number four and former Forthill player Willy Stoops was the only batsman to come to terms with the conditions and played a fine innings and was not out after scoring a fine half century at the close, including some lusty blows from the bowling of the mad professor.

The total of 132 would normally have been a canter but such were the conditions that the total was a fighting one. After a three out of ten tea – no ladies; no warm food; lack of sandwiches, too much reliance on doughnuts; one of the home team seen nose picking while serving tea – we set of in pursuit of the total.

At 21 for 3 we faced a fight to reach the total; although a long batting line up and the feeling that Kinloch were struggling in the back up bowling department meant we were probably still favourites, however global warming struck again and monsoon weather once again descended on St Andrews and the game was brought to an abrupt end.

All in all a wasted day.

So we keep our percentage intact and move on to a week which sees the re-arranged cup final against Falkland on Thursday and a table topping clash with Bread Al Bayne at Forthill on Sunday.

Sorry for the boring report, I am still in a state of sleep from the game and fear I may be brain dead for a few days.
