Match report Match Report – Coupar Angus versus Forthill 30.04.11

Forthill won the toss and decided to make first use of the synthetic wicket on a pleasant day in Coupar Angus. The grass was rather long and therefore 200 was going to be a good score. Howie and Scotty C made a strong start and put on fifty before Howie chipped one of his legs straight to square leg. Scotty departed shortly after to one that jumped off a good length and was well caught at slip.

This brought Gav and Callum to the crease and they both looked solid working singles. At the thirty over mark Callum was going to start to up the rate but he forgot to bring his long handle and couldn’t manage to hit many boundaries. So Gav took on the role of the aggressor, charging down the pitch, and powered his way to 50.

Callum eventually started to up his scoring rate smashing one straight to boundary but in trying to repeat it the following ball only managed to find the man on the mid-off boundary. But by then Callum (35) and Gav had managed to put on over a 100 partnership and Forthill were in a good place to push for 250. Gav continued to push toward his first hundred as wickets kept falling around him. When Gav hit the 90’s the nerves started to kick in, but he finally got there for a well deserved 103. In the end Dennis managed to run out Cameron Walker (on his debut for the 2’s) for a duck but Forthill still finished on a very respectable 236.

Andy C and Matty opened up the bowling for Forthill and both bowled good areas keeping it tight apart from a few wides. The pressure on the batsmen was building and Andy finally made the breakthrough trapping one of the openers in front. The long grass then claimed its first victim as a well hit ball pulled up quickly and a good throw from Scotty and quick work form Matty had the Coupar Angus batsmen well short and he departed without facing a ball. Dennis then came on and managed to find an area on the pitch where the ball didn’t bounce. Wickets then fell rapidly as the Coupar Angus batsmen exposed a few too many stumps.

The Walker’s (Callum, Cameron & Ted) wrapped up the innings with some well directed bowling to have Coupar Angus all out for 79.
Overall a very good start to the season for Forthill.
