Winning Start to 2018 EPL Season

29 Apr 2018

Forfarshire got their 2018 Eastern Premiership campaign off to a winning start with a 5 wicket win over visitors Watsonians.

Choosing to bowl first an early drop off Christian was soon forgotten when Michael Leask then Chris Greaves both held sharp slip catches to remove opener Hindmarsh followed by E.Chalmers. A covers catch from Scott gave Bill his first Forfs wicket before he bowled dangerman Carson who had reached 33 from 62 balls with the total on 82 for 4 after 21 overs. A.Chalmers (34 from 54 balls) and Cockburn (47 from 50 balls) took on the Forfs bowlers in the later stages of the innings with Watsonians recovering to 199 for 7 - Cockburn well caught by Craig to give Bill his third wicket as the visitors headed for a final score of 217 for 7 in 50 overs.

Callum edged behind early in the Forfs reply to bring Craig and Matty together. They added 45 for the second wicket before a full ball from Nel saw Matty trapped LBW for 17. A long hop from Munsey surprised Leask to see him caught for 7 and Forfs on edge at 76 for 3 from 15 overs. A steady 53 run partnership between Greaves (24 from 47 balls) and Craig saw the Forfs regain some control of the match before Chris lofted Carson to the safe hands of Cockburn at mid-on. Scott (59 not out from 45 balls) played with positive intent from the start, hitting two boundaries from his first three balls, and along with Craig who fell for 85 from 101 balls took Forfarshire to within sight of victory.

At Victory Park, Forfarshire 2nd XI posted 151 for 8, Howie top-scoring with 44 along with a useful 35 from Craig.

Forfarshire dominated the start of the second innings with four quick wickets that left Meigle 12 for 4 before new signing Gayashan and the experience of Drummond saw Meigle to victory without further loss.
