Batting first, 72 from Andy along with 27 from Adam saw Montrose set 174 to win and at 100 for 2 after 30 overs the visitors looked to be closing in on an end of season win, but James (snr) triggered a collapse when he broke the 3rd wicket partnership by trapping Soutar LBW. Forfarshire Finish With a Win
25th August 2014
Forfarshire marked the end of the CSL season with a resounding 45-run win over Carlton at Forthill. After choosing to bat first, a 119-run opening partnership between Craig (70 from 93 balls) and Matty (47 from 88 balls) saw Forfarshire off to a confident start. Rojo faced up well to the experienced attack of Evans (4 for 44) and Drummond (2 for 23) before an Evans yorker brought his innings to an end. Aaron's hard hit 21 from 35 balls took Forfs to 170 for 5 before Liam, Umair and Andy picked up runs late int he innings to see Forfs finish on 195 for 7 after 50 overs.

Carlton had reached 22 when Scott had Allen caught behind by Craig to bring Watts and Gardiner together. Watts fell for 32 when Craig deflected an edge behind off Aman into the safe hands of Scott and backward point. With Gardiner looking in little difficulty, it took a great stop and return throw from Elliot to see Gardiner short of his ground and turn the match towards Forfarshire. The introduction of Umair (4 for 45) saw him extract significant turn and bounce from the wicket, and he ripped through the Carlton lower order as they lost 8 wickets for just 30 runs whilst heading for 150 all out.  scorecard

21st August 2014

Forthill 2nd XI upset the top of the SPCU Division One league table with a well deserved seven wicket win over league leaders Rossie Priory at Forthill on Sunday.

Batting first, Rossie stalwart Derek McAlpine hit a patient 55 after two early wickets for Andy and one for Craig reduced the visitors to 20 for 3 from 12 overs. The introduction of Iain into the attack in the 31st over brought the innings to a swift end, Rossie tumbling from 74 for 5 to 101 all out with Iain taking a career best 5 for 15 in 7 overs. Forthill 2nd XI’s reply never looked in any trouble and an assured 50 not out from Andy saw victory reached in the 28th over.

A win for Rossie at Glendelvine this coming weekend will secure them the league title, but should they drop points then Forthill 2nd XI, Kinloch and Kinross are all in with a chance of collecting the league trophy.  match report & scorecard

Back to Back Centuries for Craig
20th July 2014

Craig hit 176 not out at Forthill on Saturday - and his second consecutive CSL hundred following 122 not out against Aberdeenshire last Saturday - but his efforts were in vain as rain forced the match to be abandoned before SMRH had the opportunity to bat. scorecard

Batting first in damp conditions, Forfarshire had reached 87 for no wicket after 19 overs when rain forced a two hour interruption that saw the match reduced to 40 overs per side. Resuming on 60 not out, Wally reached 100 in 105 balls before a blistering finish saw an 18-ball third 50 take him past Ryan Watson's 145 to record the highest national league score by a Forfarshire batsman since the leagues began, and one of few to pass 150. Six towering 6s along with thirteen 4s, eight 3s, seventeen 2s and 30 singles made up the innings that saw Forfarshire finish on 272 for 3 from 40 overs.

Forthill's visit to Huntly was reduced to 30 overs per side due to rain and despite a promising start Forthill could only muster 114 for 6 which Huntly had little difficulty in chasing down in 18 overs for the lost of 6 wickets.

Forthill 2nd XI Win Two Counties Cup Final
16th July 2014

An excellent performance from Forthill 2nd XI saw them lift the Two Counties Cup at Doo'cot Park on Sunday at the inaugural SPCU Cup Finals day.

Norwood won the toss and invited Forthill to bat first in front of a healthy crowd. Andy edged behind in the second over, but a superb unbeaten 130-run partnership between Clark (65 from 60 balls) and Callum (43 from 53 balls) saw Forthill end their 20 overs on a challenging 136 for 1.

The second innings started in dramatic fashion when Craig trapped opener Shoaib in front with his second ball then bowled Saeed with the next. A third wicket followed later in the over when Singh tried to clear mid-on but instead offered a high catch which was well taken by Simmy jnr to leave Norwood reeling at 2 for 3. Norwood never recovered from their early losses, and two wickets for Morgan along with a wicket apiece for Chris, Jack and Andy saw Norwood all out for 90.

Second League Win for Forthill 3rd XI
7th July 2014

Forthill 3rd XI recorded the only win of the weekend when they defeated Gordonians XI by 16 runs at Forthill on Sunday, following losses for Forfarshire and Forthill on Saturday.

Forthill 3rd XI batted first and were bowled out for 130, Greig Gemmell top-scoring with 47 while Cookie hit a useful 26 before following that with three early wickets in an 8 over spell to reduce Gordonians to 23 for 3 after 12 overs. The introduction of debutants James S (2 for 23) and Thomas (2 for 9) saw Gordonians reach 85 for 7 after 25 overs before a flurry of runs saw the visitors creeping towards their target, but the young Forthill team held their nerve to eventually win by 16 runs.

Forfarshire were asked to bat first at Myreside and had reached 30 without loss when Matty was bowled by Nel. Gav followed for a duck in Nel's next over, but with Craig (37 from 49 balls) scoring freely at the other end, the partnership added 20 for the second wicket. Aman (26) and Aaron (17) took Forfs passed 100 before a solid 45 from 50 balls from Liam took Forfarshire up to 160 for 6 with 12 overs remaining. Calum hit a tidy 14 and with useful runs coming from Andy and Dale, Forfs were eventually all out for 214 in 50 overs.

A 99-run opening partnership was ended with the introduction of Andy when he bowled Learmonth for 38, but 90 from 132 balls from Hislop saw Watsonians well on their way to victory and despite three late wickets, Forfs had to be content with two bonus points as Watsonians took until the 47th over to reach their target.

Perth Doo’cot set Forthill 207 to win with Dale (62) and Ferguson (59) top-scoring for the visitors while Ted was pick of the bowlers with 3 for 34. In reply, Forthill started well with Rojo hitting 47 but the run chase fell away to leave Forthill 26 runs short.

Weekend Results - 21st & 22nd June
24th June 2014

Carlton v Autoecosse Forfarshire: Carlton reached 37 for no loss when Liam made the breakthrough that saw Watts well caught by Matty at gulley, and shortly after he trapped Mommsen LBW to leave Carlton 41-2. Liam struck again when McCann edged behind to Neil and just before drinks, a diving catch from Aman while running backwards up the Grange Loan hill saw Carlton in further trouble at 85-4. From there, however, Gardiner took control of the innings and his sparkling 118 from 126 balls led a recovery in the second half of the Carlton innings that saw them post 272 for 9 after 50 overs, Liam finishing with 3 for 43.

The Forfs innings started positively with Aaron striking three early boundaries against the opening attack of Evans and Freshwater but his dismissal for 15 started a frequent fall of wickets, and despite a defiant 22 not out from Andy, Forfs were all out for 113 in 30.1 overs.  scorecard

Autoecosse Forthill v Gordonians: A remarkable spell of 5 for 6 from 9 overs from Howie saw Forthill well on top of Gordonians in the early stages of their North East Championship match but a blistering 50 from Devadas batting at number nine saw a late recovery and a final total of 162 all out. Forthill were reduced to ten men before the game had started after Samir suffered a freak slash to his leg in the warm-up that required stitches and were furthered hampered when Scott pulled a hamstring while bowling. In reply, Forthill were bowled out for 98, Howie hitting 27 and Quinno 16 not out.

Autoecosse Forthill 2nd XI v Kinloch: Forthill 2nd XI's top of the table clash with Kinloch on Sunday saw Forthill post an under par 104, Simmy top-scoring with 18, which Kinloch were able to chase down with the loss of 3 wickets.  scorecard & match report

Saturday Wins for Forthill and Forfarshire
16th June 2014

Forfarshire jumped into second place in the CSL Eastern Premiership after a hard fought 34-run win over Falkland at Forthill on Saturday while in a rain delayed SPCU match, Forthill bundled Strathmore out for 44 to win by 8 wickets.

Forfarshire’s reliable opening partnership of Matty and Wally looked in command during the early stages of the game as they took Forfs past 50 without loss in the 11th over. Henderson replaced Sharif and dismissed Craig for 27 in his fourth over when he picked out Ditchmen at short mid-wicket with the total on 73. Tony also fell to Henderson before the introduction of left arm seamer Nangia slowed the scoring rate and AB fell LBW to Ditchmen to leave Forfarshire 99 for 3 after 29 overs. A yorker from Nangia saw Matty bowled for a well made 76 and with Forfs sitting on 125 for 4 it was left to the lower order to battle for runs, Dean hitting 14 not out as Forfs finished on 161-9.

A superb display with the ball and in the field meant runs were hard to come by for Falkland in the first 30 overs, however the game remained evenly poised at 81 for 3 with Scott, Aaron and Aman sharing the wickets. The introduction of Andy in the 31st over provided the game changing moments, first came a run out through a perfect return throw from Aaron at deep mid-wicket to Craig and then a brilliant diving catch by Liam off Andy saw Sharif dismissed for 16 to turn the game Forfs way. Umair then took 5 for 27 to sweep aside the Falkland tail and wrap up the game in the 44th over.  scorecard

Forthill’s visit to Lochside Park saw heavy drizzle delay the start to 1.30pm but once the game got going, Forthill struck in the first over when Quinno dismissed Hewitson. Stand-in wicket-keeper Midge was quickly in action when Andy found the end of Sneddon’s bat to claim the first of five wickets as he ripped through the home side’s batting line up. Simpson was next to fall – and in spectacular fashion – when Ted took a gully catch of the highest standard off Andy to the delight of all that witnessed it. Strathmore never recovered from the early losses and were all out for 44 in the 18th over, Andy returning career best figures of 5 for 18 along with 3 for 19 from Quinno. In reply, Forthill knocked off the runs for the loss or two wickets, Adam unbeaten on 18.  scorecard

Forthill 2nd XI have reached round two of the Two Counties Cup by way of an 81-run victory over Strathmore XI at Forthill on Thursday 29th May. Strathmore's reply got off to a quick start with Hewitson hitting 14 from the first over but two wickets for Craig (2 for 25) in the fifth over slowed the run rate and the visitors never recovered from there. Murgitroyd T20 Win for Forfarshire
6th June 2014

Forfarshire blasted their way into round two of the Murgitroyd national T20 knockout on Thursday night when they hit a mammoth 252 for 3 against Freuchie.

Wally set the scene for a high total with a series of early boundaries before a number of towering 6s from Tim saw Forfarshire race to 154 when the first wicket fell in the 12th over when Tim departed for 55 from just 31 balls. Wally continued the onslaught and eventually fell for 129 from just 59 balls after hitting fifteen 4s and five 6s. Aman hit an equally quick 50 not out from 21 balls to round off the innings. Freuchie replied with 82 for 8 against a strong Forfs attack, Scott returning his best figures for the club 5 for 12 in a four over spell.

Forfarshire will now play Rossie Priory away in round two.  video

Forfarshire Win Angus Derby
27th May 2014

Forfarshire won a tightly contested match against Arbroath on Saturday by 43 runs while at Lochlands, Arbroath came out on top by one wicket.

Forfarshire won the toss and chose to bat first against Arbroath on Saturday. Craig fell early to a catch behind off Parker that saw Aaron join Matty and the pair added 54 before Aaron drove hard at a delivery from Peal that saw a catch fly to Carnegie when he had reached 27. At 61 for 2 after 19 overs a partnership was needed to set a challenging total, and Matty (127 from 151 balls) and Aman (50 from 65 balls) produced a faultless stand of 116 for the third wicket, Matty bringing up his second century for the club in 134 balls. Wickets fell cheaply towards the end of the innings as the Forfs looked to hit out and were bowled out in the last over for 232.

Arbroath lost both openers to Aman inside of 9 overs to give the Forfs an early advantage, but this brought the free scoring duo of Bartlett and F Burnett to the wicket. Aman struck again when he beat the defences of Burnett to leave Arbroath in trouble at 37 for 3 after 13 overs. Bartlett continued to score freely but with Forfs taking wickets regularly at the other end he eventually fell for 74 to Umair (2 for 49) as the visitors run chase faltered. Liam (3 for 39) along with Aman's earlier 3 for 32 saw Forfarshire worthy winners by 43 runs.  scorecard  photo gallery  video

At Lochlands, Forthill XI were bowled out for a disappointing 127 in the second team encounter, with Callum top-scoring with 41. An early wicket for Winker and two wickets in as many over from Andy at first change kept Forthill in the game. Arbroath were soon 5 wickets down as Andy ripped through the middle order, but 22 from McGill and 28 not out from Goodfellow batting at number ten were enough to see Arbroath home with one wicket to spare in the tightest of games.

Sunday's third team match against St.Andrews University Staff and fourth team game against Gordonians XI were both cancelled.

2 Counties Cup Win v Kinloch
24th May 2014

Forthill 2nd XI got their 2 Counties Cup campaign off to a winning start at Forthill on Thursday night when they chased down Kinloch's 133 for 8 to win by 6 wickets with 9 balls remaining.

After tight opening spells by Craig and Andy, Kinloch looked to be on their way to a wining total with 100 runs coming from the last 13 overs through Viyani (60 not out) and Shakir (31) but in reply Midge and Callum scored quickly in the early overs to reduce the deficit and give Forthill the start they needed. Kinloch fought back though, and four wickets appeared to turn the game their way, including a direct hit from a distance to run out Midge for 21. Forthill required 64 from the last 8 overs in fading light with Andy and Gav at the wicket and their excellent unbeaten partnership saw a number of well struck boundaries give Forthill the win - Andy finishing on 34 not out including three 4s and a six, and Gav 32 not out with three 4s.  scorecard

10 Wicket Win at Stewarts-Melville
20th May 2014

SMRH won the toss and chose to bat at Inverleith, and established a useful opening partnership when dangerman English smashed a catch chance back at Aaron who hung on to give Forfs the breakthrough they needed in the sixth over. Aaron struck again to remove Parker LBW first ball then removed opener Spiers, also LBW, in his next over to leave SMRH 39 for 3. Elliot held a high catch at mid-on off Aman to remove Moses when he tried to hit over the top on a slow and low wicket. Liam conceded just 8 runs from a tidy 7 over spell before Dale ripped through the remaining batting line-up with 4 for 11 supported by Umair with 2 for 6.

Two first-over boundaries from Matty and a series of wides got Forfs off to a flier with 16 runs coming in the first over. Wally was not to be outdone and hit the boundary twice in the second over before going on to smash 27 not out from 14 balls while Matty top-scored with 33 not out from 22 balls as the Forfs reached their 70-run target in six overs without loss, 48 runs coming in boundaries.  scorecard

Forfarshire Back on Track and Another 3rd Team Win
6th May 2014

Forfarshire and Forthill 2nd XI both recorded well earned victories at Forthill over the weekend, Forfarshire overcoming Watsonians by 3 wickets on Saturday and Forthill 2nd XI winners over Coupar Angus by 7 wickets on Sunday.

Forfarshire chose to bowl first against Watsonians, and after 12 overs the game ambled along to 42 for no wicket. The introduction of Liam sparked life into the game when he shattered Carson’s stumps and followed that very next ball to remove S Chalmers LBW. A further wicket for Liam along with Dale bowling Easton round his legs saw Forfarshire on top at 58 for 4 after 18 overs. Two wickets for Umair saw the scoreline sit at 93 for 6 before a well-paced 72 from 65 balls from Nel saw the visitors recover somewhat to 194 all out from 50 overs.

A century opening partnership from Craig (55 from 57 balls) and Matty (49 from 97 balls) saw Forfarshire on course for victory, but not before a mid-order batting collapse saw 6 wickets fall with just a further 26 runs added. Umair (36 not out from 64 balls) and Liam (19 from 39 balls) combined in a pressure situation to see the Forfs within sight of their target, allowing Andy to strike the wining runs with 12 balls remaining. An excellent all-round performance from Forthill 2nd XI saw them complete their second league win of the year. Two early wickets for Craig (2 for 18) gave the home side a good start but brought the dangerous pairing of Sutherland and Thorne to the wicket. However just as the partnership was approaching 50, Thorne offered a catch to Midge off Christian for the first of his two wickets. Ten runs later Hogi took a comfortable catch to dismiss Sutherland off Rojo and Forthill were on top at 69 for 4 after 25 overs. Two wickets for Chris, along with one apiece for Kailas and Cameron helped see the visitors eventually bowled out for 132 in the 42nd over. Christian (49 not out) and Rory (44) were more than a match for the Coupar Angus attack and looked in little difficulty as they added just short of 100 from the second wicket. It took a one-handed catch from Edington behind the wickets to bring Rory’s innings to an end, but not before he launched a high full-toss over square leg and into a neighbouring garden on the biggest side of the ground. Christian continued to work the ball all round the wicket to secure a comfortable win after 25 overs.  scorecard

Forthill’s visit to Doo’cot Park saw Perth post a challenging 221 for 6, Wimberley hitting 80 and Dale 49. In reply, Forthill were dismissed for 66 with Rory (22) the top-scorer.

Scottish Cup Round One Victory for Forfarshire
13th May 2014

Forfarshire defeated Heriots FP at Goldenacre on Sunday to progress to round 2 of the Scottish Cup.

In the only club match to take place due to heavy rain, Forfarshire chose to bat first with Craig (63 from 79 balls) and Matty (15 from 38 balls) putting on 58 for the first wicket in just eleven overs. Aaron fell quickly, but with Aman and Craig both looking in fine form, they added 59 for the third wicket when Aman (29 from 44 balls) was unlucky to be bowled by Farrell from a delivery that kept low. An excellent 37 from Umair, compiled while wickets fell too regularly at the other end, saw the Forfs up to a final total of 198, Ian Worth taking 5 for 22 in just 6 overs.

Two wickets in two balls from Aaron (2 for 54) saw Heriots 31 for 2 after six overs and 4 runs later a short ball from Aman saw Craig take a sharp chance at short mid-wicket to make it 35 for 3. Worth (37) and Farrell (20) looked to be the key partnership - and they took the total to 81 when Farrell played on from Umair in the first of his five wickets. Two catches for Aman off Umair accounted for Cummine and then Worth to put the Forfs in control of the game. Two wickets for Scott (2 for 19)  and a final wicket for Umair saw a job well done in the 40th over.  scorecard & 'third mans eye' match report

Forthill 2nd XI Win Dundee Derby, Forfs Fail at Heriots
30th April 2014

Forthill 2nd XI secured the first league win of the 2014 season when they overcame Norwood at Forthill on Sunday, but Forfarshire’s return to Premier Division cricket saw a 28-run loss to Heriots in a low scoring game.

Andy (2 for 16) hit the stumps twice inside of eight overs to give Forthill a buoyant start but the free hitting of Saeed (52) and Deshmukh (37) looked to undo this as they took the score towards 100 before two wickets for Rory (2 for 22) along with a low catch by Glenn off his own bowling saw Forthill dominate again at 106 for 5. Ted bowled a miserly 9 overs that conceded just 9 runs but finished wicketless. The introduction of Midge (4 for 30) wrapped up the innings with four quick wickets including two well taken stumpings by Simmy jnr to see Norwood all out for 149.

Andy and Rory gave Forthill a solid start with Rory scoring freely in the early overs. When he fell for 28, Adam hit an aggressive 57 before both fell quickly to leave Forthill requiring 33 to win with 7 wickets left. Clark (23 not out) and Simmy (13) secured the win with 8 overs remaining in a good first outing for the third team.  scorecard  photo gallery

A wicket each for Aman and Aaron in their opening overs saw the Forfs off to an ideal start at Goldenacre, and more was to follow when Aman recorded the first 5-for of the season to see Heriots struggling at 37 for 5. A tidy spell of 2 for 13 from 7 overs from Liam further troubled the home side as they tumbled to 48 for 8, but what turned out to be a match-winning partnership saw 36 added for the 9
th wicket by Brown (12 not out) and Hearn (11) aided by a flurry of wides before the innings was eventually wrapped up for 88.

Forfarshire lost Matty in the first over, in conditions favouring the bowlers, and the further loss of Wally in the 4
th over handed momentum to Heriots - and they took a further 4 wickets with just 4 runs added to see Forfs reeling at an unbelievable 18 for 6 from 14 overs. Aman (23) and Liam (7) offered much needed resistance but just as the score was creeping towards 50, Liam become Jooste’s fifth victim then Aman was unlucky to play on soon after leaving the scoreline reading 56 for 8. Just 2 more runs were added, Forfarshire finishing on a disappointing 60 all out.  scorecard  photo gallery
