Forfarshire u15s - Scottish Cup Winners 2013
Forfarshire under 15s were crowned Scottish Champions at Myreside on Sunday 11th August after a 10 wicket win in the Scottish Cup semi-final over Largo and a fantastic team effort in the final against Grange saw the young Forfs win by 42 runs.
Forfarshire last won the u15 Scottish Cup in 1984, so nearly thirty years later, wins over Aberdeenshire u15, Arbroath u15, Largo u15 and Grange u15 sees the Forfarshire name back on the trophy. Well played lads!
SEMI FINAL: FORFARSHIRE v LARGO
Largo won the toss and elected to bat on what appeared to be a very good wicket.
Opening for Largo was Scotland u15 player Gillan and Coates. Christian and Jack opened the bowling and it looked as if things were going our way when Hughes hit an easy catch to mid wicket. Unfortunately it went down and the bowlers worked hard to keep the scoring rate down. Blair W came on in the 5th over and bowled extremely well finishing with 1 for 9 off his 4 overs. After 7 overs Largo were 23 for 2 with Hughes beginning to hit out. Kailas was introduced in to the attack and Cameron W. took a brilliant catch in the deep to remove Hughes. The bowlers all continued to bowl well and restricted Largo to 55 for 6 after 20 overs.
Christian and Rory opened the batting and both of them took the attack to the bowlers with Rory on 35 not out and Christian on 18 not out reaching the required total in 6.2 overs.
So on to the Final.
FINAL: FORFARSHIRE v GRANGE
Forfarshire won the toss and elected to bat first.
Christian and Rory opened and it looked as if our luck might have run out when Christian was bowled 3rd ball of the game, however the umpire called a no ball and the boys settled down to build an innings. Christian was out for 15 in the 6th over with the score on 36. Rory then started to take the bowling apart and hit seven consecutive 4’s before being judged LBW to Scotland Leg spinner Dickinson with the score now on 79. Calum and Jack were out with only another 10 runs added to the score and Cameron W and Connor were at the crease with 14 overs gone. They both batted extremely well pushing the total up to a creditable 137 at the close. Connor hit two straight 6’s and Cameron 'Dilscooped' the last ball for 3. Connor finishing on 27 and Cameron on 22.
Grange set off pretty quickly to chase down the total and were on 20 after 3 overs. Christian took the wicket of Hancock in his 2nd over and Blair W replaced Hogie. Christian went on to take 2 for 16 off his spell and Blair finished with the figures of 1 for 14 off 4 overs. Good bowling had managed to keep Grange well behind the run rate and after 10 overs they were only on 47. Rory and Kailas and Fraser came in to the attack and managed to keep the scoring rate down to 86 after 16 overs. Hogie then returned and had a remarkable 2 over spell of 6 wickets for 2 runs including a hat trick to finish the game with Grange on 94, 44 runs short.
Well done the Forfs... Hail, Hail!
