FORFARSHIRE CC – 2023 SEASON
Forfarshire Cricket Club are delighted to announce that Michael Leask has signed as the club professional for the 2023 season.
Following the successful season in 2022 which saw the club win the Scottish Cup and T20 Scottish Cup, retaining Michael’s services for the 2023 season was seen as vital by the club committee. Michael has over 100 caps for his country, and is currently in Nepal with the Scotland squad as they continue to strive to qualify for the 2024 Cricket World Cup.
Michael will also be an integral part of the Forfarshire squad heading to Malaga for the European Cricket League from March 9th to 11th.
As well as his playing commitments, Michael will also be on hand to pass on his vast professional cricket experience at the club’s senior practice nights, and will also attend several junior sessions to help inspire the club’s talented young players.
Senior coaching will continue to be led by our home-grown coaches Jack Hogarth and Callum Garden. Our new Junior Convenor is the vastly experienced Richard Rennie, who is putting together a team of local coaches to look after the various junior training sessions. Further details will be announced once plans are finalised.
We are also pleased to confirm that Jack O’Neil will return to the club in 2023 after a successful first season as the club’s Overseas Amateur in 2022. Having remained in Scotland over the winter Jack is now qualified as a local and we look forward to seeing him build on an impressive debut season. Jack joined us from Valleys CC in Brisbane, further cementing our relationship with the Australian club, which has seen our current players Callum Garden, Rory Johnston, Jack Hogarth, Craig McConnachie and James Girolami spend winters playing for Valleys.
We can also confirm that 20 year old all-rounder Lyle Robertson has signed for Forfarshire ahead of the 2023 season. Lyle is an off spinner/top order batsman who previously played for Falkland and has represented Scotland at the under 19 world cup, as well as Caley Highlanders and Scotland A. We welcome Lyle to Forthill as we continue to grow our pool of talented young Scottish qualified players.
Forfarshire are delighted to commit to home grown Scottish talent and give them the opportunity to help the club to grow on and off the park. We will also continue to invest in our youth set up and the playing and training facilities at Forthill, including the recent installation of four hybrid wickets which will be ready to use in the 2023 season. We are also investing in further improvements to our Indoor training facility with the help of the Forthill Community Sports Club and would hope to have these improvements made before the start of the season.
