Forfarshire raced to a 10 wicket win over Stoneywood-Dyce at Forthill on Saturday (13th August) to lie in third place on the Eastern Premiership table.

Two wickets in the second over of the game by Andy - this first an LBW with his first ball and the second aided by an athletic catch by Beghin an mid - left the visitors in difficulty at 0 for 2. Umair twice hit the stumps to make it 56 for 4 before Liam returned with three wickets including opener Coetzer to round off the innings on 97. Michael Leask made a hard hit 70 not out from 51 balls including thirteen boundaries and along with a run-a-ball 28 from Craig the game was wrapped up in the 14th over.

Forthill’s visit to Rossie Priory saw the home side bowled out for 76 with Winker, Hogi and Howie all claiming two wickets. The regular fall of wickets saw a nervy Forthill innings held together by a match winning 33 from Callum that helped Forthill through to 77 for 8 in the 23rd over.

The third match of the day took Forthill 2nd XI to Doo’cot Park where a creditable display with the ball saw them chasing 139, with Kailas and James each taking three wickets. Unfortunately the Forthill batting fell 39 runs short of target despite a fine 23 from James.

A maiden century for Midge (112) saw Forthill 3rd XI record a mammoth 294 for 3 with great contributions from Callum (69 not out), Morgan (45) and Lewis (35). Lucus, Liam and Lewis then all claimed two wickets in a comfortable win.

Forthill 2nd XI celebrated their first league win of the season on Saturday when they defeated DHSFP XI by seven wickets at Dalnacraig.

An early wicket apiece for Liam, Lewis and Rohan accounted for the High School top order. A mid-innings recovery was halted by three wickets for Cameron as DHS were bowled out for 118.

Steven (43 not out) and Morgan (35) then guided Forthill to a well deserved win in the 39th over.  match report

Forfarshire won a rain affected Angus derby by six wickets when they successfully chased down Arbroath's 201 for 6 at Forthill on Saturday.

A two hour rain delay after eight overs of the Arbroath innings saw the match reduced to 34 overs per side. Resuming on 33 without loss, McLean (63) and Petrie 30) took the visitors to 48 when Liam trapped Petrie LBW in the thirteenth over. A sharp catch by Craig standing up to the stumps accounted for Burnett off Andy, then Christian held on to a catch on the square leg boundary to dismiss Willemse off Umair just as Arbroath looked to be well placed for a sizeable total. From 94 for 3, McLean and Carnegie (39) added 78 when Forfs struck twice, first Carnegie run out taking on Aman’s arm for a second run then McLean stumped off Blackie. Another run out from the deep, this time to Scott saw Waller dismissed and Arbroath finished on 188 for 6.

Forfarshire were set a Duckworth Lewis total of 201 to win and lost Craig on 22 when he picked out Burnett at square leg. An assured partnership of 109 between Matty (71 not out from 80 balls) and Graeme (67 from 67 balls) put Forfarshire in a strong position but wickets in consecutive overs slowed the scoring rate with Forfs on 133 for 3 after 23 overs. A run-a-ball 19 from Umair along with a number of boundaries from Matty turned the momentum back in Forfs favour and the target was reached with fifteen balls and six wickets remaining.

Craig Wallace hit a Forfs career best 176 not out on Saturday (16th July) that provided the former players watching with prime entertainment and saw Forfarshire dominate the match over Falkland.

A diving catch from visiting keeper Brunton accounted for Matty with the total on 48 and saw Rojo join Craig in an initially watchful partnership that added 84 in 14 overs when Rojo picked out short cover. Ryan made a rare return to CSL action for the Forfs and played a solid support role to Craig who reached 100 in 98 balls while Ryan fell just short of a half century when looking to launch Ditchmen over long on. Craig passed 150 with ease and along with 20 not out from Umair saw Forfarshire finish on 327 for 3 to the delight of the large crowd that had gathered at Ted’s Shed.

Ruhode and Morris made a steady start for the visitors but two wickets in as many balls by Andy changed the scoreline to 46 for 2 after 15 overs. Umair had Sharif caught behind in his first over to make it 48 for 3. A well effected run out and a second wicket for Umair both with the total on 61 all but wrapped up the game for Forfs with only Strachan (55 from 60 balls) making much impact on the scoreline, Umair going on to finish with 3 for 12 in Falkland's 174 all out.

Forfarshire have won through to the Caledonia area finals of the Murgitroyd national knockout after a tense last ball win over Falkland.

Two wickets in the space of five balls for Liam gave Forfs a comfortable start at Scroggie Park before Umair bowled danger man Sharif in his first over to make it 32 for 3. An assured catch by Scott off Andy accounted for overseas amateur Ruhode then two balls later an aggressive shot by Campbell saw the bails sent flying to leave Falkland struggling at 53 for 5 after 11 overs. A late surge from Boyd assisted by Ferguson saw them take advantage of a short boundary and Forfs were left to chase 115 for 8, a total much higher than had looked likely throughout the first innings.

Forfs welcomed Ryan Watson back to open the batting although it was Craig who dominated the initial partnership hitting 25 out of 31 when Sharif beat his defences. Ryan quickly fell back into his old ways stroking a confident 41 from 45 balls that left Forfarshire needing a seemingly routine 22 from the last 5 overs. The dismissal of Watson to Boyd followed four balls later by Umair brought the game to life for the home side. A tight 18th over from Ditchmen left 12 to get from two overs with Scott and Matty at the crease. A similarly tight nineteenth saw the game go to the final over with 8 runs required by Forfs. Matty was striking the ball cleanly and the over got off to a good start with a double aided by a overthrow for an extra run followed by three from the second ball. Two run outs then followed, first Scott while attempting a third but the two scored were enough to tie the scores - then Coinneach unfortunate to go first ball when a straight drive was deflected onto the bowlers end stumps. With the scores level, Matty dispatched the final delivery towards the mid-wicket boundary with ease to give Forfs victory in an entertaining encounter.

Forfarshire won a reduced overs match at Peoples Park on Saturday to sit with six wins from seven matches and lie 8% ahead of Watsonians in the CSL table.

Persistent rain delayed the start but a brief dry spell saw Stoneywood bat first in a 30-over match. After a calm first four overs, overseas player Brayden Stepien found his range and despatched the Forfs attack repeatedly into Aberdeen airport surrounds, hitting 115 from 83 balls including twelve 6s and four 4s as Stoneywood raced along to 211 for 6 in increasingly damp conditions. Graeme taking 3 for 36 and Aman 2 for 69.

Craig and AB got the Forfs off to a promising start but on reaching 26 in the third over, AB was dismissed to a very sharp catch at backward point. Craig responded by despatching Ninan for two 6s and two 4s in the next over before falling for 63 caught and bowled low to Coetzer’s right in the 11th over with Forfs on 102. Graeme and Umair added 75 for the fourth wicket to take Forfs within sight of victory which was secured in the 25th over, Graeme finishing 59 not out in his fifth score over 50 in seven CSL innings.

All other weekend matches were cancelled due to rain, including the under 13’s trip to Inverleith for the Natwest ECB semi-final and finals day which has been rescheduled for this coming Sunday, 19th June.

Forfarshire moved into first place of the CSL Eastern Premiership on Saturday (4th June) following a dominant performance against Aberdeenshire. There was also success in the second team battle at Mannofield where Forthill chased down 211 to record their third win of the season.

Batting first, Craig (90 from 71 balls) and Matty (83 from 96 balls) shared an opening partnership of 183 in 27 overs and both looked set to reach three figures when Craig offered a looping catch to wicketkeeper Martin from a sweep that was followed soon after by Matty who edged Venske through to Martin in the 31st over with 210 on the board. Graeme (56 from 40 balls) and Umair (48 from 60 balls) made cautious starts to their innings but later accelerated the Forfs total towards 300 after 45 overs before a final flurry saw Forfarshire finish on 333 for 7.

Howard and Jamieson saw the visitors run chase off to a good start but a run out then a catch behind the wicket saw both out by the time Aberdeenshire had reached 60. Venske and Cooray threatened to keep Abedeenshire in the game but Umair made a timely breakthrough to bowl Venske for 31 and later saw Cooray edge through to Craig for 50 to give Forfs the upper hand in the game. Three wickets in four balls from Christian followed by three wickets for no runs from Hogi wrapped up the game in quick time to see Forfs victorious by 151 runs.

At Mannofield, tight spells from Howie and Quinno followed by 2 wickets for Rory limited the home side to 211 for 7 from their 45 overs. The Forthill response started steadily with 44 from Rory and 22 from Howie before Gav (56) and Nic (58) combined to put Forthill in a winning position and despite losing two late wickets, the target was reached with 9 overs to spare.

Forthill 2nd XI travelled to Bannockburn on Saturday and fell well short of the home side's 286 after a century from Belli took the game away from a young side - James and Liam taking the only wickets to fall. match report

Forfarshire won a tight game with Carlton at Forthill on Saturday to sit level with them on three wins from four starts in the CSL table. Forthill lost to Meigle but there were wins for Forthill 2nd XI over St.Andrews University Staff by 47 runs and Forthill 3rd XI over Montrose by 11 runs.

Early morning rain cleared in time for a 1pm start with Forfarshire opting to bowl first. A swinging delivery from Begs clipped the off stump of MacPherson in the 7th over and set the tone for the Forfs bowlers - with Matty, Christian, Liam and Umair all hitting the stumps to leave the visitors 132 for 6 in the 33rd over when Umair fought back well against Evans who hit a quick 22. With Drummond running out of partners he took the attack to the Forfs but a well flighted delivery from Hogi found the safe hands of Christian on the deep square boundary that saw Carlton all out for 180 in the 45th over.

Matty and Craig played a watchful game to start but an uncharacteristic mix up saw Matty run out in the 7th over with 37 on the board. Beghin (59 from 86 balls) and Wallace (39 from 51 balls) added a comfortable 65 before a mis-judged quick single and sharp fielding saw Craig also run out. Umair (20) and Beghin both fell within the space of eight balls to bring Carlton back into the game with Forfs on 149 for 5. Short stays by Christian and Rennie left Scott (20 not out) and Andy to scamper the final required runs amongst mounting pressure from the Carlton attack.

At Meigle, Forthill suffered a 5 wicket reverse after being bowled out for 114, Callum top scoring with 24 and Midge 22. The combined efforts of

Drummond (31 not out), Farmer (30) and Clark (24 not out) saw Meigle through to victory with 7 overs remaining. scorecard

In reply, St.Andrews reached 205 for 7 with Ted taking 3 for 29 in a fine home victory. match report

Forthill began the defence of their league title with a 122 run home victory over Strathmore

Batting first, Howie (36) and Callum (25) saw Forthill off to a comfortable start by adding 49 before Strathmore’s new overseas signing Theo van Pype struck twice in three balls to leave Forthill 49 for 2 after 12 overs.

Forthill’s middle order repaired the early damage, firstly with a sparkling 19 from Andy, then a solid 26 from Blackie before an entertaining 72 on debut from Nic Green saw Forthill through to 244 all out. In response, Strathmore slumped to 122 all out with Andy taking 5 for 4 while van Pype top-scored with 58 for the visitors.

Forfarshire's visit to Myreside proved to be a nail-bighting encounter with the Forfs just failing to chase down Watsonians 257 for 7. At 33 for 4, the run chase looked all but over however a 94-ball century from Beghin and 47 from Christian saw Forfarshire recover to 225 for 7 but Watsonians struck back to take the last 3 wickets for 11 runs and secure a 22 run victory.

Forfarshire got their CSL season off to a winning start with a comfortable 7 wicket victory over league newcomers Glenrothes.

Opting to bowl first, Graeme Beghin collected the first wicket when he trapped Rai LBW in the 4th over. Rawling and Greaves then laid the foundations for a lengthy second wicket partnership but AB struck to dismiss Rawling after being launched over mid-wicket the previous delivery with Liam taking a simple catch at square leg. An outstanding running catch from Umair off Liam saw Glenrothes 53 for 3 in the 17th over before a second wicket for Liam and two wickets in as many balls for the returning Beghin saw Glenrothes faltering at 84 for 6. A well taken return catch saw Greaves fall for 60 to Umair while Hogi collected the final two wickets to reduce the visitors to 126 all out.

Forfarshire’s response was dominated by Craig’s 68 from 47 balls which included three sixes in one over from Reddy that went for 25 as the Forfs romped home with 7 wickets and 34 overs in hand.

Forthill's SPCU opener with Gordonians was cancelled due to ongoing wintry weather in Aberdeen preventing the ground from being prepared.

Forfarshire travel to Myreside next Saturday to take on Watsonians who's opening league match was postponed due to bad weather while Forthill will host Strathmore.

The annual Captains XI v Presidents XI took place at Forthill on Saturday - and a high scoring game saw the Presidents men victorious by 12 runs.

A hard hit 91 from Richard along with 50 from his opening partner Callum saw the Presidents team off to an impressive start. Fine early season touch from Umair (64) took the total to 245 for 9 after 40 overs.

Matty top-scored with 79 for the Captains XI before a late innings 35 not out from Craig McC and 29 from Midge provided an entertaining end to the days play.
