Match report
There were showers around for most of the journey to Linlithgow, this meant a delayed start and shortly after a long break for the rain. This allowed time to watch the FA Cup final before tea and of course hear that Dundee had been relegated.
The wicket looked good and remained fairly dry despite the rain. There was a brisk start to our innings with some good hitting from AD in an opening stand worth 53. We lost a few wickets in quick succession and when Rhino was given run out at the non-strikers end, when it appeared the umpire wasn’t in any sort of position to give a decision, things didn’t look so good at 94-4. Robert Cannon produced the crucial innings and batted superbly. As the wickets fell steadily at the other end he saw it through to the final over before he was out for 79.
If we were to defend this total we needed a couple of early ones. Rhino and Q provided this by removing the openers early and putting the pressure on the home side. A good partnership saw the WL score move onto 79 before the next wicket fell to the bowling of Howitzer Garden. He struck again soon after, which brought the experienced head of Dave Fleming to the crease. His was to prove the decisive wicket and had made an excellent 43 before a quite outstanding catch in the gloomy light by Howie saw West Lothian’s chances all but gone.
It was one of the latest finishes at after 9.30 and the light was fading fast. We had to produce some excellent pieces of cricket to win this game and there were 3 run-outs which aided us. West Lothian surprised us with how well they battled and even with the early loss of their pro they believed they could still win.
