Forfarshire Cricket Club 1st XI v Greenock on Sun 12 Jun 2005 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Won 58 runs
Match report
The good weather from the previous day didn’t last and it never looked likely we would get a 50 over match completed. The wicket was a touch green but didn’t look too bad, Tony lost the toss again and we were inserted. With Greenock’s 2 main bowling threats in Scotland stars Stanger and Wright missing they opened with the slow bowlers. Our innings got off to a good start with an opening stand of 72 from 16 overs. We had 5 rain breaks during our innings and it was difficult to maintain any momentum. If you’ve ever had to push our covers you’ll know that’s a lot worse than it sounds. The overs were reduced after each break and we had to try and keep the run rate up as we didn’t know how many overs we would get. There was a bit of a collapse in the middle of the innings and Bobby Cannon played some nice shots before holing out just before the rain fell. After the final calculations we were reduced to 32 overs and achieved 145.
There was a bit in the wicket for the bowlers and we thought 145 would be competitive but we would have liked another 20 or so runs. We needed a good start and that’s what we got, a good catch at thirdman by chik got rid of the dangerous Dave Arnott. Then Rhino picked up 2 wickets, one of them the vital wicket of Jason Krejka. I then surprised everyone by taking a return catch to remove Scotland U-19 starlet Richard Berrington. The pressure was mounting on the Greenock batsmen and some poor shot selection and running between the wickets saw their innings gradually capitulate. Another excellent performance in the field saw the Forfs win comprehensively in the end.
