Forfarshire Cricket Club 1st XI v Greenock on Sun 19 Jun 2005 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Lost 2 wickets
Match report
Another good day, good wicket and a good afternoons’ cricket was ahead. Tony must have stepped in something on his way to the ground because he won the toss. It was an easy decision to have a bat first. With Bobby C off to Captain Europe and Umi on a flight to Pakistan there were a few new faces to the first team. Pete and Howie continued their good form with a 140 run partnership, the highest of the season. Things looked good for a very competitive total at drinks with 111 on the board without loss. Once Howie was out there was the customary flurry of wickets and pads and bats were flying around the changing rooms. Pete batted very well and was out close to the end 2 runs short of a deserved century. Some good hitting from Asif and Finbar saw us along to 216-7, probably 10 – 15 runs short of what I had predicted at drinks.
Sam and I opened with a good spell, the new Dukes ball moving around a lot early doors. Luck was with me and 3 edges found their way into Drummy’s gloves, a great start and the pressure was on the Greenock batsmen. The danger man was Tom Black and he was still at the crease and started increasing the scoring rate. Howie found his lines and picked up 3 wickets but nobody else was able to stem the run flow. Blackie flighted the ball well and picked up a wicket but there were too many four balls and unfortunately for a pet rabbit sixes as well. As I had bowled my 9 at the start it was time for a change and Sam came back and bowled well. The decisive over came from the leg spin of Finbar when Tom Black saw the chance to turn the game. He hit another six over the wall attempting to bag another rabbit and the game was all but won. It was a close finish with a loss by 2 wickets and 1.2 overs remaining. Perhaps the extra 15 runs would have swung it our way. A disappointing end to a game that we could have won.
