Forfarshire Cricket Club 3rd XI v Kinloch on Sun 18 Jul 2010 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Lost 10 wickets

Match report
The poor weather of the previous week meant that it was an unusual looking Forthill wicket that greeted the players of Forthill XI and Kinloch who gathered for the top of the table clash on Sunday.

It was a ground staff miracle to get the wicket playable at all given it was under water on Thursday and it was no surprise that the centre of the strip was green and soft whereas the ends were surprisingly firm.

Under these circumstances the toss is always vital and it was unfortunate that Kinloch called correctly and the home team found themselves in bat. It was quickly apparent that Kinloch had recruited some good new players in the bowling department as two new overseas faces supported the evergreen Bowman and Whisson. As a combined attack they bowled very well on the helpful surface and the home side found the going tough from the outset.

Runs were hard to come by and wickets fell at regular intervals as Kinloch stayed on top throughout and it was only really Glen who came close to mastering the innings and he was not out at the end when the innings closed on just 83 runs.

Tea was held back and Kinloch went into bat and the young home attack were unable to utilize the conditions in the way the experienced visitors had and in quick time a ten wicket thrashing had been dished out.

Full credit goes to Kinloch who completely outplayed the home side in all departments and on this showing they will push table topping Kinross all the way for the league title.

For the young Forthill side it is an example of the improvement that is still needed individually and collectively and a ten wicket defeat such as this is sometimes a good thing in the long run.

Tea was taken at the end of the day and this was also pretty forgettable with a poor array of sandwiches, savouries and cakes on view so a miserly three out of ten was awarded.

In overall terms it was a day to forget and hopefully things will improve with the visit of Bread-Al-Bayne next week.

You will note the lack of funny comments in this week’s report. This is because I am fed up at getting hammered.
