Rossie Priory v Forfarshire Cricket Club 1st XI on Sun 04 Jun 2006 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Won 22 runs

Match report Sunday saw our annual friendly against Rossie Priory at the Priory. With the weather changeable between roasting and freezing it was never going to be an easy day for cricket. With our arrival delayed by the late call-off by our paceman Quinno it was decided that we would play a 40 over game. As usual with this friendly we decided to play the first ball forfeits.

Opening up the innings we had Miersy and Fiba. Miersy had drawn the "Pad up" token and Finba the "hit a 4" token. Both passed their first tests with ease and began setting the Priory a total to chase. Both hit the ball well until Miersy was caught on 21 going for one big shot too many bringing to the crease Rusty.

There was an unexplained delay in play as Russell had inexplicably came out to bat without his.... bat!! However he then donned his blindfold and faced up to what turned out to be a rather tame slower ball outside the offstump. Was it cruel that we were asking for a bouncer?? However Russell didn’t last much longer either having his middle stump up-rooted.

Greg "MJ" Stewart was next in and after spinning splendidly with a cry it was down to business for him stroking the ball about until he was gunned by LJ. Blackie came in at 5 and after reverse sweeping for 2 of his first ball managed to get to 14 comfortably before he hit a shot to long off thinking the fielder was still turning on the oven, only to find he had sneaked back on the park and took a good catch.

Finba batting well managing to get to 52 before he was caught at long on. It was then left to the two "lucky" players to bat away and Neil and Howie managed to get to 30 odds each before both succumbing to the slow spin of the leggie. The last two wickets were polished off also by the leggie as Peter "hit a reverse six" Drummond and young Ally both got out leaving Rossie a target off 214 off their 40 overs.

After some tasty sandwiches it was time to field with Goochie and Mo opening up the innings. Both bowled well picking up 2 wickets a piece in their opening spells. Rusty came on and bowled wayward but still managed to pick up a wicket and Drummy bowled well picking up his first wickets of the season leaving Rossie with their last hopes of victory in the form off McFarlane and Flynn, their overseas amateur. Flynn was tied down by Blackie whilst Faf was finding it hard to get Finba away from the other end. Finba bowling very well which shows some good signs for the rest of the season.

Once Nathan got fed up with blocking 3 maidens in a row from Blackie, his misery was finally put to an end when he was trapped leg before.

The tail was then cleaned up by a mixture of good bowling and some good fielding. Beast, Blackie and Mo finishing with 2 wickets a piece and Drummy, Rusty and Finba with one.

All in all, a good day out enjoyed by all and we look forward to welcoming them to Forthill for the league encounter.
