Match report A mystery meteorological event known only as the ‘Cully affect’ had caused the previous day’s wicket to be too wet to play the game on. Fortunately last week’s wicket was still in good condition due to the unusually dry weather and was hastily prepared. The sun was shining though and it was a good opportunity to get some early season practice. We had a bat first and the skipper decided to move the order around to give a few people some practice. Tony opened with Andy and both had a steady start facing the pace of Kiwi pro Andy McKay. The ball was bouncing a little from a length and there was a bit of movement early on that made batting quite tricky.

After the first wicket fell there was a succession of batsmen came and went as several poorly chosen shots and the difficult wicket started for a major collapse. Kean provided some good entertainment hitting some lusty blows including a big six, before eventually holing out, and Howie played the ball around well providing some solidity down the order. A final push in the last few overs saw us to 127 but we didn’t bat all the overs.

A good start in the field saw us pick up a couple of early wickets but runs were coming too easily given the small total we were defending. A run out helped our cause and GB came on and immediately picked up a wicket. He found some turn and bowled well picking up a further wicket but couldn’t stem the run flow. The bowlers were swapped around but it wasn’t long before Arbroath closed in on our under par total.
