Forfarshire Cricket Club 3rd XI v Northern on Sun 25 May 2008 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Won 97 runs

Match report
Forthill welcomed last seasons division 2 winners to Forthill on Sunday in the shape of Perth Northern, although a quick glance round the visitors changing room suggested it was a Perthshire League Select team that turned up, Northern recruiting well from Crieff who have so far conceded all of their league matches.

Batting first on a hard wicket and with a fast outfield, Neily and Kevin took the score nicely to 28 before Kev missed one from the pacey Hussain and was bowled. This gave Buts the chance of a good long knock in his first outing of the season, but the home skipper had other ideas and adjudged Buts LBW from the first delivery faced, and Forthill were 28-2. Neily and Ian batted carefully to recover the situation, Neil placing the bad ball well through gaps in the field and picking up good singles to keep rotating the strike. A sharp chance stuck in the gloves of keeper De Lange and Ian was out for 27 in a partnership worth just short of 100. Neil continued to hit the gaps well and a quick 16 from Goose took the score up towards 200 for the loss of 4 wickets. Neil passed through the nervous 90’s without any alarm to record a fine maiden century and some good hitting saw him eventually out bowled for an excellent 131. A quickfire 31 from Elliot and an equally quick 16 from Jaleez saw Forthill sit comfortably on 274 at tea.

Mo and Kev opened the bowling for Forthill and a good catch behind by Goose saw the first wicket fall with the score on 20. This brought Hussain and White together, Hussain showing style that suggested he had played cricket at a higher level, and White punishing anything loose. As the score passed the 100 mark, the visitors were keeping up with the required rate, aided by some let-offs in the field. A good run out accounted for White and was the breakthrough needed to put the brakes on the scoring. Danger man Hussain passed 50 and looked capable of taking Northern to within sight of victory when a short slower ball from Kev saw him stuck on the crease and hit plumb in front. Jaleez and Adees both bowled excellent spells without reward as the required rate moved closer to 10 an over. A brisk knock of 24 from De Lange was ended by another fine delivery from Kev, taking his tally for the day to 4-32, and this also ended any hope Northern had of a win. The game petered out from there to see Northern finish on 177 for 7.
