Forfarshire Cricket Club 1st XI v Aberdeenshire on Sun 29 Jun 2008 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Won 7 wickets

Match report It was another warm day at Forthill and the forecast looked promising. Wally came into the side for Chik and Blackie replaced Watty from the previous day’s team. This meant the average age plummeted, with no fewer than 8 players 23 or under. The wicket was much the same as the previous day but the outfield was back to its normal fast pace. No prizes for guessing who won the toss and we bowled first, again!
We got off to a good start with some early wickets but a few bad balls were easily dispatched. Sam picked up his first wicket with Brand comprehensively bowled. Just in time to prevent him being pulled from the attack. The openers finished their spells with 2 wickets each to leave Aberdeen in some trouble. Dougie produced an excellent spell to continue the good work and picking up the crucial wicket of Astle. Drummy took an excellent low catch to give Dougie his 4 wickets. Umi didn’t quite find his rhythm and AB came on to pick up a wicket and give Drummy his fifth catch of the match. Blackie finished things off with a wicket in his first over thanks to an ill advised shot from West.
We were in confident mood at tea and hoping that any rain would hold off long enough to allow the game to finish. Tea was taken so early that some of the food wasn’t ready, much to AB’s disappointment as he had to make do with half an orange and a Chomp for his tea. Luckily he wasn’t required to bat as the runs were knocked off in good time. A patient innings from Howie who wasn’t likely to throw his wicket away, saw us to victory. Coops was in early and in an attacking mood. There was plenty of bat speed being generated and several balls raced to the boundary. He was eventually out for a quickfire 44 out of 64 on the board, but it was the perfect start we needed.
Bobby looked to be batting sensibly and played some nice shots in a good stand with Howie. Not one to hang around and play it too sensibly, Bobby was out stumped trying to attack the spinner with just 15 runs needed for victory. Umi managed to score most of these as the Aberdeen bowling was changed round. It was a convincing victory in the end and went some way to revenge our narrow defeat the previous week.
