Forfarshire Cricket Club 2nd XI v Stoneywood-Dyce XI on Sat 20 Jun 2009 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Won 42 runs

Match report
Forthill hosted Stoneywood Dyce on Saturday looking to bounce back from defeat the previous week. It didn’t start well with LJ due to arrive at 2.30 due to work commitments and Simmy Junior arriving at 1pm due to a late night drinking session. Forthill batted first on what looked like a reasonable wicket.

Elliot and Finbar opened up the batting and both looked to be settling in until Elliot edged one to the slips while trying to leave the ball. Neil and Finbar both got started but never pushed on to make a big score. This proved to be the case with most batsmen as Shaun, Gavin, Dean, LJ and Jalees all recorded double figures. Simmy recorded another duck but fortunately this time there was no punishment though it was suggested he should go for a swim at Broughty Ferry beach. Ted and Andy finished the batting in style as we closed the innings on 204 with Andy scoring a solid 31 not out and Ted a career best of 10.

Confident of being able to defend 204 we opened the bowling with LJ and Dean who quickly found a good line and length to reduce Stoneywood to 30-4. However a strong 5th wicket stand proved useful for Stoneywood. Shaun replaced Dean and bowled well but couldn’t make the breakthrough. Ted replaced LJ but bowled an uncharacteristic expensive two over spell and was quickly replaced by Jalees. This would lead to a shock announcement after the game. Shaun broke the partnership after the batter edged the ball through to Neil. There was still work to be done though and Jalees got his reward for some good bowling by dismissing the South African with a full toss and a smart catch by Elliot on the square leg boundary. Andy then finished off the Stoneywood line up with a good spell claiming three wickets. A good fielding performance from everyone although it became clear that Simmy Junior washes his own whites.

Delighted with the win we started work on the covers and rope after which Ted called an emergency meeting in the changing room and sent shockwaves through the Forthill camp. After a glorious career spanning 57 years consisting of 102 Runs and 2 catches he announced he was contemplating retirement from the game due to a recurring injury. A retirement party in Jollys is already being planned - for further details contact D.Fearn or N.Martin.
