Brechin v Forfarshire Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sun 16 Jul 2006 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Won 8 wickets

Match report Minus the holidaying Sim Twins, Forthill XI made the trip to Brechin hoping for a victory to cement their position at the top of the table. It was good to see the Brechin ground looking in fine fettle with the old pavilion re-opened and looking like it's old self and new fencing around the ground. Let's hope this fine old club sees a bright future.

In spite of Simmy's absence, their was no change of luck with the toss and Forthill were asked to field first by Brechin on a very green looking pitch. Their was certainly plenty of life in the strip and Asif took a wicket in the first over, however it was the Brechin batsmen who were largely in command in the early part of the innings. Some wayward bowling didn't help, however, the introduction of Elliot led to him turning in his best ever figures for the club as he found turn and bounce from the pitch and Brechin struggled to cope with his excellent bowling. Andy and Asif also chipped in with wickets and after a promising start Brechin slumped to 127 all out in the fortieth over.

Batting wasn't going to be easy and in reply we quickly found ourselves two down for not very many, however an unbeaten century partnership ensued between Andy and Clark to see the Forthill boys home to a comfortable eight wicket victory in what was Andy's last game of the season before his trip to South Africa.

In truth , it was largely an uneventful day played under bright skies. Apart from some interesting shouts from the home support enjoying a few ales in the afternoon sunshine there was little of note and it was nice to bag a comfortable 25 points.

Highlights were Elliot's bowling and Andy's batting and it is unfortunate that they along with Dean will miss next week's top of the table clash with Perth. There could also be a fitness doubt over Kean who collapsed mid innings with his ongoing knee problem whilst fielding in the deep.

In view of the importance of next weeks match and in anticipation of a large travelling support it has been decided to make the match all ticket with a full programme of entertainment planned.
