Arbroath v Forfarshire Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 31 May 2008 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Won 56 runs

Match report Forthill travelled to Arbroath knowing that win would consolidate first spot and also maintain the teams 100% record so far this season. Some late changes meant that Finbar and Dalts were recalled in place of Bazza and Bryce. The wicket was fine and it looked like a nice day was brewing when the sun broke through so we decided to have a hit first, so out stepped Gav and Craig to open up.

After good batting performances recently there was some hope of a good start but that vanished when Gav drove the 2nd ball of the innings straight back to the bowler. In stepped Dennis but he didn’t last long either and soon nicked behind and we were struggling on 1 for 2. A solid partnership was needed and this was found in the shape of Marathon Tony and Craig. Tony went on to notch his first century of the season, much to his team-mates disgust. Craig also looked set to score a hundred for the second time this season but Dennis wasn’t having any of it and he was gone LBW. Dalts also felt aggrieved to be given out for 0 after Gav thought he heard a nick from the umpire’s position. Useful contributions from Deano and Dougie meant that we managed to get to 235 off our 45 overs which we thought was competitive.

After an enjoyable tea, except the sausages, Dougie and Deano opened up and found the Arbroath boys keen to hit out. Dougie got the breakthrough when he managed to find an edge, and Dennis took the slip catch easily at 2nd. There was some resistance from the batsmen from then until the 25th over by which time the score was onto 110-1 and our 100% record was looking in trouble. Blackie managed to get the opener for a well earned forty odds and Pratik got their number three for a decent 59. From then on in it was a case of containing the runs and a needless run out from the home side meant that one of the danger mean Burnett was gone. Not taking away from the good bit of fielding from Dalts. Pratik and Blackie both bowled tight spells and both finished with 4 wickets a piece.

All in all, a good solid victory in a match that last year we would probably have lost. Sharper fielding in the first 25 overs may have meant a greater victory margin but a win is a win.
